Lessons for the Journey
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ส.ค. 2017
Lessons for the Journey is the teaching ministry of Dr. David Clifton. It is a practical, expository teaching from the unchanging truth of Scripture, presented to provide lessons for the journey of faith and the journey of life.
Remembering that the events of Scripture did not happen in a vacuum, Pastor David attempts to enter the culture and set the stage upon which these events occurred. His “preaching between the lines” helps us understand the Bible's messages and make practical applications to our everyday lives.

Christian Essentials 3: Why is it essential thatJesus is God?
If you recall, last time we answered the question, “Did Jesus claim to be God?” And when we looked in the right places we found the answer was a resounding Yes! What we didn’t answer is the question, “Why is it important that Jesus is God?” This series is about Christian Essentials. Biblical questions: if we don’t get the answer right, it will control our eternal destiny. Since we established that Jesus is God last time, let me rephrase my question, “Why is it essential that Jesus is God?”
Peter declared that answer to the Jewish officials and those gathered around him in Jerusalem…
Acts 4.12 LSB And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Follow me closely here, because while I’m going to try to make this as simple as I know how, it’s still a rather complex issue. Because Peter’s declaration begs the question, “Why is there salvation in no one else?”

Christian Essentials, Pt 2: The Deity of Christ
มุมมอง 514 วันที่ผ่านมา
If you recall, last time we began a series investigating indispensable spiritual truths. These are the non-negotiable matters of faith, that when not properly understood prevent one from coming to true saving faith. And since the term I generally use for these are Christian Essentials I’m using this for the title of this series of messages. They are essential truths necessary for saving faith a...
Christian Essentials, Part 1
มุมมอง 6หลายเดือนก่อน
It's the first Sunday of January, a new year, all the Advent messages have been delivered and there are no expectations of a certain topic being the subject of sermons in the future. I considered looking into a book of Scripture, perhaps doing a study from a book, but the Lord seems to be leading in another way. Sometimes God uses people to do that. Something someone says resonates to put it sp...
Presenting Jesus...
มุมมอง 9หลายเดือนก่อน
Presenting Jesus... This morning we'll start with the occasion when Jesus was presented in the Temple for the first time. There were two older individuals Simeon and Anna in the Temple at the same time. These two had been waiting for Messiah for probably all of their adult lives, and they lived to see His arrival. It seems they had invested their lives in service to the Lord so that when the An...
What is the Nativity?
มุมมอง 15หลายเดือนก่อน
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, nativity is "Birth, especially the place, conditions, or circumstances of being born." But that's not the general usage of the word, is it? Probably the most frequent usage would be when we speak of nativity scenes this time of year. Nativity concerns with the place of one's birth. On this fourth Sunday of Advent, let's begin with a Scripture that ...
Christmas Announcements
มุมมอง 6หลายเดือนก่อน
This message is from the third Sunday of Advent 2024. According to our readings, it's the Sunday of Annunciation. But that’s just a fancy word for announcements and we have those every Sunday. I'm titling today's message, Christmas Announcements because we'll look at more than one. Even though it's most often the announcement to Mary that's called the Annunciation, that's maybe not the announce...
Christmas Adoration
มุมมอง 62 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's the 2nd Sunday of Advent 2024, and according to our readings, it's the Sunday of Adoration, but it depends on who’s naming the list. It's also called the Sunday of Waiting or Preparation. Of the 22 English translations of Scripture in my Bible software, only one-the NLT - has the word "adore" or "adoration" in the text. And it's only found twice. One is in the Song of Solomon, and that is ...
Christmas Expectations
มุมมอง 122 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today is the first Sunday of Advent 2024. If you Google The Sundays of Advent, the most frequent list is Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. I also found Prophecy, Love, Joy, and Peace. According to the reading we used today, it's the Sunday of Expectation. That's not even on the list. The readings we use here at Bethlehem for the Sundays of Advent are Expectation, Adoration, Announcement, and Nativity...
Joy, Contentment, and Peace
มุมมอง 22 หลายเดือนก่อน
Over the past few weeks, we have looked into how believers integrate, or at least how they should conduct themselves related to society around us. I want us to change gears a bit today. This week I want to concentrate more on our personal lives. I want to look into our attitudes and feelings in our personal lives. Today I want to speak to you about “Joy, Contentment, and Peace.” Specifically, I...

Tomorrow, in the US, we will observe Veterans Day. This morning, we recognized all the veterans present. Once again, I thank you for your service. You have helped maintain our American way of life. And speaking of our way of life, we had our national elections less than seven days ago. And for a bit more than half the country that was a joyous occasion. I’m sure many in the “Christian” communit...
One Nation Under God?

2 Chronicles 7:14 (LSB) and [if] My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will listen from heaven, I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land. The way some translations present this verse makes it seem like a stand-alone statement. And at least in the U.S., that’s how it’s most often used. Many in America wan...
Learning From the Lord’s Prayer, Pt 4
มุมมอง 93 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been delivering a series of messages titled “Learning From the Lord’s Prayer” throughout this month. And you know I’m referring to John chapter 17, not Matthew or Luke. This is where Yeshua begins His prayer after a conversation with His apostles on the evening of the Last Supper. When I began this, I had no idea it would turn into a series. And each week, I sat down at my desk intending t...
Learning From the Lord's Prayer, Pt 3
มุมมอง 53 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you've been following this channel, you know that earlier this month, I began what has come to be known as Learning From the Lord's Prayer. And you would also know I'm referring to John 17. This is the conversation and prayer that the Lord had after the Passover meal on the evening when He instituted the Lord's Supper as we've come to know it. At the time I began this, I had no idea it was g...
Learning From the Lord's Prayer, Pt 2
มุมมอง 113 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you recall last week we began examining what I initially called “An After Dinner Conversation.” That series of events starts in John 13.31 and continues to the end of chapter 17. Truthfully, the conversation ends at the end of chapter 16, but the Lord's teaching does not. When we get to chapter 17 Yeshua has finished the after-dinner conversation and starts praying. And since the Lord is pra...
Learning From the Lord's Prayer, Pt 1

If you look at John chapter 17, we see it's easily divided into three parts, "The Son Glorifies the Father" in verses 1 through 5 then "Yeshua Prays for His Disciples" in verses 6 through 19, and "Yeshua Prays for All Believers" in verses 20 through 26. I wanted to title this message, and I guess I'll make it a subtitle, "Learning From the Lord's Prayer." But I knew if I did that when you looke...
