Let's Talk about Hoarding: Episode 15 - Animal Hoarding: Current Understanding and Misunderstanding
Hello! Welcome to Let’s Talk About Hoarding! This is a space where we demystify this common mental health phenomenon that we currently call “hoarding”. We are in a very early stage of growing our understanding about hoarding as a society. We may know a little about possession hoarding, but misunderstand a lot about it. When it comes to animal hoarding, though, we have even more to learn! In this episode, we are so glad to have Eileen Dacey, MSW, LCSW, PhD Candidate in Social Work, join us. Eileen will share what animal hoarding is, what we currently know, and what we need to learn more. She will also share advice for those who are seeking help and those who are offering help. Hope this episode provides us with clarity and helps us see shared humanity.

Exciting work. I know one doctor who was treating HD in the UK would ask his clients to do a cooking class with other HD people. Fun and connection and also enjoy working in a clean kitchen again. He had a TV show.

Loving all these videos but the music is so distracting, frustrating and overwhelming of the audio. I am hearing impaired and have ADHD and I'm not sure how many more I can listen to with these unecessary soundtracks - a real shame because they are great resources.

Please stop having background music with the videos. 1) The music makes it more difficult to understand the speakers. 2) It is very distracting to have the same song play over and over and over and over again. 3) Do you realize that the instrumental being played is a Christmas song?! So as song plays,. the lyrics are also going through the minds of the listeners. Please eliminate background music in future videos! Thank you!

Thank you Rea and Betty, what an encouraging testimonial Betty, wishing you the best on your journey. I wish there was such an availability of resources and community out of the US and UK, unfortunately not so. I must say each time I hear both these things mentioned I do feel very much discouraged, there is such a limitation of awareness first of all, resources second, on all aspects, from therapists who are prepared with hoarding related issues, to places where to donate things, and so on, and finally community as in safe spaces of peers with which to share and be accountable are also non existant....I do believe that isolation is a negative factor in this, connected to shame...

Thank you so much for this series, it's helped me immensely. It's also acted as a sort of grief counselling that I wasn't aware I needed; when you talked about envisioning the compassionate being earlier in the series, I immediately envisioned my wonderful dad, who passed away suddenly in January 2020. You unlocked something that I didn't realise was having a much more intense effect on me that I appreciated and I can't thank you enough for helping me to understand/approach this. You're a wonderful person and a fantastic practitioner. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
