If the water your fishing in your local river is in the 1-10ft depth range lures like the Phantom Softail glide bait or any pike/musky size glide bait , size 6-10 bladed Musky spinners “bucktails”, Suicks, and noisy Topwater baits catch a lot of Muskies for us in rivers here in Wisconsin. Soft plastic baits like the Bull Dawg, Medusa, Swimmin Dawg also are great, but because they sink so fast snags are a risk! You can even get away with larger 6-8” Keitech “Swing Impact” swimbaits, larger size 18 Rapala Originals and size 14 Rapala Husky Jerks, and Rapala Super Shad Raps are great! 👍🏼 Some heavy action musky rods 8’6-9ft in length, baitcasting musky reels with 80-100lb braided line will help throw those musky baits better! I run Shimano Calcuttas and TranX 400 size reels with 100lb Power Pro line, but there are more affordable options. Also always bring long needle nose pliers and hook cutters , and a jaw spreader. The right tools save the day when musky fishing! All of these baits have caught my friends, family, wife, and myself Muskies over the years in river’s environments! Good job on your first Musky, I am sure they won’t be the last! Musky seasons closed here in Wisconsin right now, but dreaming of opening day already coming in May! Once you get the Musky and Pike fever it’s not easy to shake. 😆 Good luck! 🎣

Here in Wisconsin I do a ton of night fishing due to targeting fish like Walleye, Musky, Pike, Bass, Crappies, and WhiteBass in clear water. Fish are usually very nocturnal if the water clarity is Crystal clear, or even moderately clear. Usually most guys are getting off the water when I’m showing up. But if I’m fishing murkier conditions, or in Spring when the sun warms the cooler water temps, I find daytime fishing works out more. But if I do fish daytime I’m usually sunrise/sunset about it! Pike and Muskies are very nocturnal creatures, more than most fishermen realize! Catfish are more nocturnal as well than most species of fish. I get my biggest Catfish at night, and more numbers of them. Great videos , my wife and I been watching you guys the past year and love your content! It’s been hard keeping my head in the TH-cam game with the whacked out algorithm, but I am getting ready to start posting some Fall/early winter river Walleye/Pike videos, and preparing for ice fishing season up here in the Midwest! Great video, ladies. I'm still excited about y'all's first muskie. I got my first (and so far only) ever trout this year during the second week of December. I was pretty excited about that, especially after watching one of y'all's trout fishing videos.

Nice video Rae. Every vessel has their pros and cons. The more you use it the more you'll figure things out. Anhoring would my top priority so you can thoroughly fish the area. I have a powerpole on my bass/flats boat and they are expensive but great. I'm not sure what you can rig up there for an anchor, you obviously can't tap into. Maybe something along this order, cheap enough to give a try maybe. Hope your Christmas was good and have a Happy New Year ! I sent you an e-mail with what looks like a good idea.

$140?! That was a really great deal! I'd say you've gotten your money's worth. I fish out of a kayak that is fairly narrow with a rudder, and it handles the wind pretty well. But still, the wind is the one thing I watch constantly. I would really recommend getting an anchor. It doesn't have to be heavy, but it can be a lifesaver if you really need it. Great video. I was fishing in 40 degree weather last week and had a nice catfish get tangled on a log, I had to go in up to my man parts to untangle it. I landed my fish though lol.
