Eye of the Coach #95: Emotional Alcaraz needs to refresh mentally after US Open
Patrick Mouratoglou says that Carlos Alcaraz‘s team needs to take a look at his schedule to ensure he gets a break - but for his mental health, not his physical health.
In the latest episode of Eye of the Coach, the Frenchman says that he wasn’t entirely surprised by the Spaniard’s exit in the second round of the US Open.
“I could feel already before the US Open that he was struggling mentally - not because he’s not good or he has a problem, but because it’s consuming, a Grand Slam,” says Mouratoglou.
KEY MOMENTS
0.01 - Mouratoglou knew Alcaraz was struggling mentally ahead of the US Open.
0.11 - Alcaraz’s achievements in the last three months are unbelievable. “Tennis is a lot about fighting your emotions,” says Mouratoglou. “You need to be fresh.”
0.35 - Mouratoglou says he always thought there was a question-mark over Alcaraz’s mental state going into the US Open. He did not expect him to lose in straight sets, but could sense his mental exhaustion: “That’s exactly the consequence of someone who is emotionally drained.”
0.59 - Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the Olympics required his complete commitment because they mattered so much to him.
1.16 - Alcaraz is exceptional and is possibly the best player in the world when it comes to being on court.
1.37 - He is mentally strong, but is an emotional person.
1.43 - Alcaraz has cramped on court many times, and emotional people have to make great efforts to control their emotions and handle the pressure.
2.01 - Alcaraz knows that to win he has to play, and enjoy playing.
2.15 - Alcaraz’s team need to put together a calendar to ensure he has enough mental rest.

It’s one thing to get to No 1. It’s another thing to stay there. Both, of course, are extremely difficult. However, the saying goes in tennis that it’s even more difficult to stay in the top spot of the rankings than it is to get there in the first place - and Patrick Mouratoglou does not disagree. Mouratoglou explained the new challenge that awaits Jannik Sinner, who clinched the No 1 ranking ...

I think Sabalenka had a higher average forehand speed than the men was because of most WTA players hit slower and more in the middle. Sabalenka often overpowering her opponents, their reply was weak and she had plenty of time to go to the ball, set up and rip the ball as hard as she could.

    • @hichamb1
      @hichamb1 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

That's exactly what I thought when saw this stat. Except serve, any other strike in tennis depends of the previous one, and sabalenka can hit full power almost all time because female opponents barely handle her strength. Put her in front of any male/ATP player, she wont be able to dominate rallies and her forehand avg speed will decrease dramatically.

in the 2024 US OPEN mens final during the match ESPN showed a stat that the ave; forehand speed of both Fritz and Sinner in that match alone were greater than 80 mph; i am assuming the stat stated in this video is taken for the whole tournament; also her game is predicated on hitting the ball as hard as she can; men like sinner, djoko, nadal, fed etc do not have the sole aim of hitting each forehand as hard as they can for outright winners; these men are also playing more tactically using forehands to maneuver their opponents around the court before delivering the coup de grace ; if you had the top 30 men and saba in a contest in which the goal is simply hitting forehands as hard as you can all the time then the result would be pretty self evident; she wouldnt be first

Sinner will win Wimbledon and USO this year without a doubt. He will most likely defend aus open 2025 as well. If he wins RG 2025, he will then become the youngest player to win all grand slams beating rafa's record

It's hard to see Sinner winning Wimbledon this year. Of course, much will depend on his draw. US Open he is a huge favorite.

@@broncoguy4862 how is it hard? If it takes carlos 5 sets to beat Sinner on carlos best surface, then current form Sinner will beat current form Carlos on grass in 4 sets. Sinner didn't train for 3 weeks prior to RG because of the flu and hip injury. So he wasnt in the best form for RG anyways

10 or 15 in the world. Side note: Rune is #15 at the time of recording 😂. Smart man this one.
