Far easier to do this job from the rear and remove the drum. It takes more time, and you have more stuff to remove, but that way you don't have to force things and break the clips on the fan cover.

Worked on my WAE 28377GB/53 (serie 4 varioperfect) - but the programs are in slightly different positions - so go down to 6 o'clock press the spin speed button, then to 7 o'clock - let go of the button and then to one click (11 o'clock) to the left of off - then off. I had replaced the carbon brushes on the motor.

Some bits have been jumped. Removing the fan cover is impossible either remove the drum or break the clips and single screw holding fan cover in place. This is a poor design and I feel designed to be difficult for the diy or allow there engineers to charge more. Level of dismantling is madness
