      I was lucky there. Some Mexican construction guys were working right near. That was the reason for the unnoticed sand patch in the middle of the road that bit me for no traction on a hard turn. It was also early with the sun glare. So I got a ride home when there's no way I could of ridden back right then.

  • @southwirralcyclist1986
    @southwirralcyclist1986 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't cycle through red lights, but in the situation in the video, I might dismount and walk across the junction as a pedestrian, which avoids breaking the law as pedestrians aren't legally required to obey traffic lights. Walking across a junction like this, is of course no safer than cycling across. However, walking across a road is perfectly safe providing you give way to any traffic. Cyclists are permitted to ride through red lights in some areas/countries (Paris, Canada and some US states).

    • @MichaelSnasdell
      @MichaelSnasdell 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I too will get off and walk if I feel I am going to be delayed for a considerable time, otherwise I just enjoy taking a breather. If some care was taken when passing through the light I would be more supportive, but a slow crawl seems to quickly become a full speed pass. Just like right on red in the US if it is part of the known behaviours it becomes more acceptable. However the lack of care by many prevents it being viable, in my opinion anyway

    • @southwirralcyclist1986
      @southwirralcyclist1986 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MichaelSnasdell If cycling through a red light were permitted, then it would be essential that cyclists did treat the red light as a give way (or stop) sign. Many junctions which originally were controlled by give way signs have had traffic lights added as traffic levels have increased. That traffic level isn't generally that high throughout the day though and reverting to 'give way' when traffic is lighter would make sense. We also have to remember that traffic lights were introduced to control motor traffic. Cyclists had negotiated junctions perfectly safely without them for decades without them. I always like this video th-cam.com/video/pqQSwQLDIK8/w-d-xo.html which demonstrates how much easier it is to negotiate a junction safely on a bike than in a car.

    I use to go to Florida every summer on vacation. Here in Ireland we hardly ever get thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are nothing to play with in Florida. I was in a house many years ago that was struck by lightning. The airconditioning exploded and the house was set on fire. Ever since then I have never enjoyed thunderstorms. I have been to other parts of the US and even compared to places like new York City, I have never experienced thunderstorms like the ones in Florida. The Northeast US does not really experience many sea breeze thunderstorms like in Florida. Most thunderstorms in the northeast are associated with the passage of cold fronts or upper level disturbances and they tend to happen about once or twice a week. No other part of the US has sea brezes that move inland and collide from both coasts.

      Had our first proper thunderstorm in belfast a week ago & it was the first actual storm that came right over the city without going to the south or the north in at least 10 years though I've only ever seen 1 what I would call a supercell storm & that was June 8th 2003 that huge motheship looking storm with different coloured lightning but no rain then heavy rain then another wave of huge hail ,that storm lasted almost 2 hours & I've never seen anything like it in ireland since .Truth is thunderstorms were frequent when I was younger & I've noticed through my late 20s & 30s they have been very rare & I'm 47 now & this was the first thunderstorm of any note in 10 years or more ,maybe climate change 🤔
