It gets hotter in port hedland than Broome, but the humidity makes it feel worse in Broome..thats why i could never live in Queensland. At least WA is so big you can live down south

Is this Cooke Point Caravan Park. I grew up there 45 years ago and this is the first time I've seen it since!

We were fishing off shore of Port Hedland when a winch motor buggered up, so into Hedland we went for 7 days. I drank in that pub, and the girls that were on show in the Pub, (Skimpies or something they were called) stayed upstairs out the back. It looks exactly as I remembered it. Funny thing, the Skipper of our boat was a home brewer, and whilst in Port, he put down about 100 litres of beer, as the boat was stable. He somehow ended up with about 4 or 5 or those little 20 litre "post mix" kegs and 1 big beer keg. Not sure how they got into the back of the ute, but .. Anyways, we leave Port Hedland to resume our Prawn fishing, deep sea survey about 100 miles off shore. On the way he starts gassing up his brews. One of the kegs leaked, and he (we) lost all our beer gas. Karma is a bitch. Anyways, I notice the Skipper and the Engineer chatting up in the wheel house and they come up with a solution. As we had been in Port, we had all the mail etc for the other boats in the area. We arranged a meet up/party at I think it was Rowley Shoals. When we tied up, Stern to stern, bow to bow and one other, I noticed them bringing fire extinguishers to our boat. The Engineer worked out a way to gas the beer with the CO2 fire extinguishers. Well, that is what I remembered. We had anchored up at night, the next morning, I had never seen such a beauituful sight, as the colours of that little atoll/island were absolutely beautiful, even with the mate pukling over the side from his nights exertions. We liked the "home brew" on the boat, drinkinging was limited, and the brew was a low alcohol mix, for safety reasons. Anyways, you bought back some memories of my time in Port Hedland, circa 1992. It was my first trip to sea, a fiery baptism with the deep sea trawling in depths of 1000m. That's 1.8 klm of wire out each side of a 86' boat with a net on the end. It would take 45 minutes for the nets to hit the bottom. I loved it.
