Had one of these about 20 years ago. Got it for a few hundred bucks coz it wasn't running properly......I cleaned the rats nest out of the air filter and bingo! A mate ended up totalling it on the Kuranda Range or I'd still have it today. I loved that little beast. They can be a bit underpowered, but that is exactly why you can get so far without ripping it to pieces. Like an old Hilux, it has just enough power to pull you out of a bog etc. but not enough to start spinning wheels or snapping axles (that's a main reason why old Toyotas are so reliable and trustworthy....they are overengineered for the power they have, which is just enough. I lived at Pascoe Farm, just on the Wenlock and Pascoe rivers at Cape York and near the 'Frenchman's Track' for years in the early 00s, and you'd be shocked at just how many new 4x4s we pulled out of trouble with an ancient Hilux. Id actually take an old early 90s or late 80s Hilux over a Landcruiser, or anything else, if I really was going seriously remote and solo...especially if it's been properly reconditioned). These shorties are great, but are a bit hard on the old spine. You're sitting right over the pivot point and centre of gravity too, so they feel a bit different off-road.....very sure-footed with those exact tires you've got.

Put a diesel injector in but firing water into the intake pipe at the bore valve. squirt a bit of water in and get extra pressure from the steam but have some control of the heat.
