This was back when I was also active as a player, and I have watched many of the big cups (in fact, I also recorded many of them, and watched them 100s of times back then). But this match I had not seen before, and greatly enjoyed watching

Mikael Sppelgren is one of the few who has more wins over J-O Waldner than losses. Usually When They met Appelgren won. But Appelgren was great champion. He won 3 European championships ( the only player to do so ) he was unofficial world champion in 1983 When he won 9 Grand Proximo titles in the same year. He was the one breaking the Chise wall in 1989 by easily beating the world No 1 Jiang Jialiang in the first team match and he easily best world ranked No 2 at the time in the 5 and final match. In 1989 Appelgren was seen as the best Swede and got 2 matches in the team final just as No 1 in the world Jiang Jialiang. Waldner got one match and Jörgen Person one match and there was one double match making it 5 matches and 5-0 to Sweden against China. Appelgren would have won the singles world championship also if he had not been placed in a Court where there was an internal wind Blowing making it impossible to win the set from one side. Appelgren drew the wrong side of the table against a much an opponent he won 100 out of 100 matches against. So that was just bad luck. Had he met Waldner somewhere in the singles under real circumstsnces ( No internat wind blowing ) he would have beaten Waldner. He Always best Waldner in the big championships. Appelgren also won the worldchsmpionship in doubles, and 3 more Team world championships. He son the unofficial Worldchampionship in singles were all the best players attended in 1983 in USA. He son 5 Swedish championships in single ( that was quite a feat considering not Waldner and Persson entered everytime and Sweden had many great players beyond that ) he won the prestigious SOC ( Scandinavia Open Championship Where the best players of the world attended ) 4 times. One could go on forever about all he has won. He was seen as the greatest tablet tennis player of all time untill J-O Waldner won the Olympics in 1992. At thst time They were Equal. Then Waldner won another World championship in 1997 and Then he passed Mikael Appelgren as the greatest Swedish tanke tennis player of all times. Privately Mikael Appelgren and J-O Waldner are best friends and as Young players They trained Together all the time. They did Something extraordinäry, beside all the other weeks training They went to the West of Stockholm ion Sundays and trained for 11 to 12 hours that day. So They knew each other very well. As very Young in 1982 They met in the final of the European championship in 1982 Where Mikael Appelgren defeated J-O Waldner. But Appelgren is one of the few who has more wins than losses against J-O Waldner and Appelgren has quite much more Winston against Waldner than losses. He knew what to do to best Waldner. But the 2 greatest table tennis players ever from Sweden.

This is the best game Waldner played. This is also the best Yen Sen played.. It just so happen Waldner dictated this game.. Skill wise.. no doubt.. both showed their best. Waldner just exploited Yen Sen weakness.. service receive.. Liu Guiliang did the same to Waldner every match.. If not banning the rubber Guoliang is using and hiding serve was remove from the rules.. Waldner had a hard time beating Liu Guoliang.
