Gardens Of The Moon Explained (Part 1) - Pale
A discussion for beginners about the lore of Malazan. Grab your books, we begin with Gardens Of Th Moon.
I dont want to spoil the story but love discussing its lore. So I want to tell the lore from the perspective of the characters, and the order of what is learned from reading. Much like Erikson I'm trying to be vague yet informative.
I thought it'd be an engaging way to discuss the lore and bring new readers.

    My mom never bought me a memory card, so I had to start a new game every time I played. Sometimes, I'd leave my PS1 running overnight, only to die on Disk 3 the next day... I really need to finish this game-it's my favorite FF.

    It’s pretty delicious how wrong this video was in terms of analysis on gameplay. The ff7 remake games possibly have the best gameplay in the series. I wonder what you think now?

    One of the biggest blinders the story has is easy to miss the first time I played ff8 I missed anything hyne related but that's also the problem because if people were able to come together and defeat hyne then fighting and beating sorceress shouldn't really be an issue in comparison. There's not really any justification on why something that is significantly weaker than what it came from should be causing more of an issue. You can't really have the argument that the world was united during hyne so it was easier because again a sorceress is way weaker then hyne it shouldn't take the whole world to unite just a major city or 2.

    Everything you said that is bad design is the funnest FF system for me. Sure, you might draw at the beginning, but later you refine. And the system promotes grinding? Other RPGs don’t? How do you level up your Materia? At least in FFVIII, your grinding is focused (you are actually doing something in battle to grind, drawing a specific magic, or mugging for an item to refine, and trying to survive doing this while the enemy attacks you), whereas in VII, you’re just killing monsters (something you do whether you’re grinding or not) to passively grind some Materia you equipped.

    A few corrections : the group known as Red Blades also carry Otataral swords, so not just the Adjunct, also Kalam gets his hand on Otatoral knife Ganoes named his sword "Chance" not Oponn. Not trying to ba an asshole just wanting to help, your video was great and funny, well done.

    Worst in the series? You and me would never be friends. Final Fantasy VIII is great, I've beaten it several times and I love it more each time. One of the best OSTs in the series as well. Everyone who complains about VIII's systems can't get past looking at it like any typical jrpg. They could've fleshed out more of the interesting aspects of the story and lore instead of having a lot of it be pretty hidden from the player behind easy to miss NPC dialogue and hidden notes. I do just love how out there the story and lore are and how mysterious and unexplained a lot of it is works for me in a cosmic horror sorta way. Same with Necron at the end of FF9. I can understand why many wouldn't vibe with it, and I really dont like much else led by Nomura tbh, but I think people can be a tad cruel in regards to FFVIII.

    The stats on Party Members is very misunderstood since you can give Party Members permanent stat increases. I actually remember the main story giving us lots and lots of Strength Ups. The Weapons have their own individual stats as well. Some just have better weapons than others. Couple that with the Stat Increase abilities on Level Ups and their unique limit breaks it really shouldn't be hard to see an identity in them. Quistis uses Blue Magic as her Limit so naturally you'll make her the Mage plus her Whip is very Low Damage. Selphie Limit is again all about Magic and using her Slots. Rinoas best Limit is infinite Magic Spam. Squalls Limit is Renzokuken which is all physical. Irvine and Zell Limits are also Physical. Since you can spam Limits this is actually a much bigger factor than you realize plus this goes into world building since women become Sorceresses. In other words: Men = Melee. Girls= Magic

  • @tylercafe1260
    @tylercafe1260 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Unironically the biggest mistake was thinking summons were good enough to have on any Party Members. Seriously you saw that damage and thought it was worth it? No wonder you didn't beat it. But you kind of neglected the thing you said at the beginning which is how you can manipulate items to be other things. You get these things called "Wizard Stones" as you fight mobs. What do they do? Gives you multiple stocks of a spell. Sometimes these items give 50, of that spell for just one of the required items. So if you focus on killing mobs you will get a faster supply of spells overall due to item conversion and the ability to choose what spells you get. So you don't need to hunt down people with Haste you can just Craft it. Draw system is very easy to overthink and make your experience worse. On the contrary you do get stronger with level ups thanks to GF ability like "Strength Bonus" where you do receive a stat increase. The system was pretty easy and convenient to use. So like here's where it gets HILARIOUS to me. You're talking about "Drawing Curas" but why? Matter of fact because of how it's designed in that particular Boss you don't need Curas you can just Draw and Cast directly from him everytime. So technically speaking you're never out of spells to use that will be beneficial to your party.

    Great video, sums it all up perfectly. Just tried playing through 8, haven’t touched it since I was a kid. Man, this game is so tedious. Tons of walking and map transitions, tons of junctioning and menu navigation, tons of that godforsaken drawing, just plain bad design all around. I swear that they made this game to be annoying as hell. I can’t take it anymore. Shumi Village right after gaining access to the flying Garden absolutely broke me. Most of the already stupid small village doesn’t even have music, and the stone side quest was so mind-numbingly boring. The only really interesting thing about this game is the music, as always in thanks to the legendary Nobuo.

This specific moment, the jail section, this was the point where i realized when the junction system went from being a largely prevalent but tolerable annoyance to an outright criminal stupidity in my eyes. I couldn't use Squalls limit break for the rest of the game (not that I used limit breaks much my first playthough. First run was basically a GF only run) How do people struggle with this childrens game?

    Nobody can make Malazan interesting. It reads like a series of footnotes to a dream some guy had on mushrooms. None of the characters are the least bit compelling. The books seem to be constructed from a random table of interesting situations, where nobody is likeable, and nobody matters. A huge word salad.

      @Redmeddle1776 I don't think I am. I've been reading high fantasy for nearly 35 years, and this is the most over rated novel I have ever picked up. Whiskeyjack, (like Brandybuck but less interesting) is one of many superficial characters operating in a world that has no atmosphere, apparently no weather, and is populated entirely with characters whose back story is so convoluted as to be meaningless. Every single character is a facade with a fake name, assumed identity, hidden past, possession problem, or some other pedantic device to make them seem interesting when there is no reason to like a single person in the book because they are incapable of being genuine in any way. Not to mention there is the Twin God of chance there to pull the carpet out from under any satisfying or logical resolution. And why is the Alchemist called thw Alchemist? Does he actually perform any alchemy in the book at all? He might as well be called the General, or the Banker...

    How about th ereally stupid part about junctioning magic to increase stats... the QUANTITY also impacts the benefit you receive for each stat... So you are DISCOURAGED from USING the magic because it lowers your inventory, lowering the stat. So the entire game is basically - Find th ebest magic for any given stat and NEVER USE IT.

Final fantasy has always evolved in every single game, one thing or another is always different. Final fantasy 8 isnt for everyone. It actually takes intelligence to understand. Just like FF15 ( which is one of the best btw!) It actually takes effort, so stop looking to be spoon fed and show why we play jrpgs..we are supposed to be smarter the fps players
