Nissan RD28 diesel engine 001
Here you can see the Nissan RD28 diesel engine in the yard at purchase time. It was checked and moved 1000km south to Quilpué, where it was installed in the car. The three following pictures show differents views of the engine. It has passed almost three years and the engine is running extraordinarily well. Attached to the engine is a Jatco automatic transmission, model RL4R01A. It has three speeds, plus overdrive (80km/h) and lock (92 km/h). Very soft and performing well.
Engine is from year 1996. Not known date of AT.

Nissan RD28 diesel engine performance at work on a Mercedes 1989
มุมมอง 43K15 ปีที่แล้ว
A Nissan RD28 diesel engine, 6 cilinders in-line, normally aspirated, was instaled on a Mercedes 300E of 1989. The engine is a 1996. Together with the engine a Jatco RL4R01A automatic transmission was installed. A new differential was installed also. The engine run very smooth, no vibrations and very little noise. When running with closed windows very little noise of the engine can be heard. At...
Hello my friend this engine can install in nissan patrol y60
Focus: it was perfect. They changed it. It is very old.
No focus,wait,i'll change my glasses
Estimado, no eres la misma persona que se puso a fabricar biodiesel ? saludos!
If less fuel expense is what you are looking for, you should drive slower than that. If you will drive that fast, be sure you use the right engine cooling radiator with RD28 engine, and drive at about 2500 rpm, meaning you need the right final ratio too. The car wasn´t a diesel. Visit my web site, search it as rd28engineswap to find more answers.
Omar, send me an email to jemazabr@yahoo.com.br and I will answer you. Here it is impossible.

my rd28 doesnt work well on the gearing, it is slow and when it accelerates it jumps on 2nd gear. help please.
Omar, consider to use a transmission cleaner aditive for 10.000 km. After that, discard trans fluid and fill new. This may improve trans shifting. If it doesn't, go to trans mechanic.

Watchintz: thank you. The car is running very well, the engine is soft and reliable. There is something on what the LD28 is more reliable: the distribution chain it has. The RD28 engine has a rubber strip or such (don`t know the name in English). However, I have heard the iron chain is more noisy. That is one reason to change it for rubber. LD28 engine has 92 HP while RD28 has 100HP (past 1995). Mine yields 14km/lt at 100 km/h flat. I use the car every day since 4 years, and climb mountains.
No, it was a gasolie car. You need to install a relay for starting the engine. You need a relay for the heating bulbs, and a command in the cabin. You need to instal a diesel fuel feeder and filter (one unit). You need to take out old engine, carburator and fuel pumps, air filter. Then you need to install diesel engine and connect injection pump to electric on switch. You will need a lot more things, but there is no space here. Send yr email plase.
I think it will be ok for that speed, but you need to consider the car itself, gear box and final ratio. Test it and adjust if necessary. The weight of yr car is rather lighter than mine. Good luck and send pictures of yr project. MrOldBeaver
My mean MPG at present for more than 10 full tanks is 32 mpg. My road maximum mpg at 100km/h was 40 mpg. Top speed I have attained is 170 km/h. The engine is very good for a car, but they use it for jeeps and even for power stations. Reliable, soft, silent. Not very powerful in relation to its size: I recommend use the proper differential i.e. with a final ratio of 4:1. My actual final ratio is 3.46 . Donor car had a 4.08 final with a max speed of 155 km/h. More questions wellcome.
Well, for me it has been very reliable. It is working for 3 years in my Mercedes with no problem at all. Run smooth and quiet for being a diesel. My best advice on it is to have a good final ratio for getting the performance the engine can give, and a good radiator and cooling system to avoid overheating and care of your engine. I drive in the city, on the road and through mountains with no problem so far. Normal travel speed I use is 100 to 110 km/h on the road.
