Eddie FourFather Hill and Hondo GT warming up at the lake
มุมมอง 9226 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the first time this fresh 540 inch Big Block Chevy has been in the water since Tommy Keeter installed new Racing Head Service aluminum cylinder head assemblies with the excellent T&D rocker arm setup. Too windy here today-imagine that- wind in Wichita Falls! to do much, but I wanted to make sure everything was operational and working as it should, before the new owner takes it to the La...
Eddie FourFather Hill does a short tutorial starting his Hondo GT boat
มุมมอง 2.3K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Starting the 540 cubic inch Big Block Chevy engine and putting in gear. I prefer to run the engine a couple minutes or so in neutral to build a bit of heat in the engine and oil, and get a stable idle. Then shut the engine off, put the shifter handle in gear, and restart the engine. Although it is possible to clunk it into gear with the engine idling, I hate that sound, and much prefer my method.
Eddie FourFather Hill and his Hondo GT playboat- Drain plugs
มุมมอง 2526 ปีที่แล้ว
Drain plugs to let any splash out of the Hondo, when you take it out of the water, preferably while still on the launch ramp and the transom is low enough to drain completely. Remember to put these in before launching the boat!!

I am trying to explain about launching and loading the Hondo, but the wind noise makes the audio almost useless, and did not realize that until we were home from the lake. Sorry about that, hope you can at least get something out of the video.

This man is a legend of Drag Boat Racing and NHRA Top Full. 👍
Awesome dude😊
A thing of beauty 😍 we always love you Eddy big fan 4 years
What size and type of tires? I'm thinking about putting A7s on the stock 15/16 wheel setup but don't think they'll fit under the fenders, or I'll overheat them
Great car Eddie! Still shocked you gave up the Hondo though.
Hello Eddie, I used to watch you here at Firebird. Started boat racing after watching you. I think you are the greatest and admire your humility. Wish I saw this when you put it up for sale. Simply beautiful.
Looks familiar !
Beautiful boat Eddie I’ve got a Hondo that Tim Morgan built an engine for it. Money well spent. Boats are worth every penny for the enjoyment they give us.
She is a beauty, I have a 1971 Hondo Vdrive myself and it is definitely a blast to run up and down the river in. Take care and be safe.
Thanks for the comment, westbender 820. Ercie and I always enjoyed the Nuclear Banana, too, but we are really enjoying our open wheel road racing now. And I get a LOT more drive time! Eddie and Ercie :-)
And you are absolutely right about one thing for sure "GOD is good! ALL the time...
Wow That is one sweet ride... mmm... mmm I just picked up a 1974 Hondo named "Flat & Sassy 484". It has been covered and sitting in a lean to in Arizona for 30+ years and it needs a LOT of TLC. As I was perusing through drag boat info online I came across your boat and it's amazing the similarities. The colors are very close and the number lettering on the side is identical. Mine has a 454 Chevy dual 850 Holly w/high rise the gentleman who bought it brand new in 74 ran it for 3 years from what his kids said he had winterized and put it up for the winter in 1977 and he got sick and never touched it again and It sat in that lean to ever since. I was working with one of his daughters husband and he told me about it. I asked if they wanted to sell it and they just wanted rid of it as they had sold the property and were required to get rid of "All the Junk" They gave it to me to help haul stuff off. I pulled it out put new tires on the wheels, changed the wheel bearings and pulled it to Tennessee, it's now in my garage and this winter I begin the rework. (I would have put up a pic but couldn't figure out how to do that on a post) Thanks for putting yours up for everyone to see it gives me hope I can make mine look like that. v/r Rick
I would love to buy that off of you!
That boat is beautiful Eddie..... I would do anything for a hot lap of arrowhead in it....
I think we all have noticed Eddie's foot placement and how he works the pedals....but we are truly missing his hand placement. In the long straits: 9 and 3. Then watch his left hand slide up to the 10 as a lefthander is approaching. Knowing the track layout, hand positioning and positioning your hands based on where you are on the track at a given time are the little things like this are what separates the novice from the advanced.
Absolutely head turning vehicle! It treads a fine line between formula racing car and wild road car!
Passing everybody on the track!
What engine does use?
Supercharged Honda K20a
I knew gene deaver. I got magazines n trofeos. With this boat. He built it
Desperation setting in?
Not the Nuclear banana.lol but still sounds good!!
I wish I could afford it, knowing me the insurance alone would kill me! It's one sweet ride that's for sure!
Now...one more lap on nitro.
Wind noise is OK,Stay well. 73s
Great to see and hear you Eddy,Stay well my friend.Happy Holidays.73s
Always one of my favorites everytime I got to go to the races. Eddie, Jimmy Wright (may he rest in peace) and Glenn Hitchison in Sin Fuel. Rex and Glenn did the motor work for my dads boat. He had a BGH named The Blown Rebel. I miss the old days and going racing!
Thanks, Chris. Jimmy Wright was a real prince of a guy, a fierce competitor, but always fair and very pleasant. In my early days of top fuel boat racing when the cost of racing did not leave me enough money for motels, Jimmy let us stay for free with him in his house"Hotel California", he called it. He was truly one of the all time greats, He called my all white hydro the "Great White"- like the shark that gobbles up other fish- Cheers, Eddie The Texan Hill
Well, markjulian, it is for sale, now that I have moved up to a pro formula Mazda road racer. I know I have sure enjoyed this supercharged Honda K20a powered Atom more than any other models of the Ariels I have been selling and driving. If you can afford it, it will be more fun than the money it costs.
Should I buy this?
WOW I Will definitely own one ASSUME ride. Mine will modified to the maximum bur I would definitely need some type of cushioned racing seats THANKS for sharing 😎👍👍
I would love to own this, or another Honda powered Ariel. Also, congrats on having the best Wife in the World!
You drive like me.
Amazing..
Faulty towers parrot
Eddie, if I had the money I would buy this car from you right now. I know it is for sale, but sadly Uncle Sam does not pay me enough....but I retire in six so if you are unlucky enough to have not sold it by then I will be calling.
pbandj37, Thank you for your service and keeping us safe and free to enjoy life, whether it is roadracing, or whatever we enjoy. Cheers, Eddie
born 1936 ?? .. this is an pretty fast old man 👍
Yes, sir, I was born March 6, 1936, on the 100th anniversary of the battle of the Alamo, exactly. But Einstein said as you approach the speed of light, time slows way down. And I've been going fast all my life, so maybe I'm not really 81?
I have watched Eddie and Big Daddy go fast as I grew up watching them in the top fuel dragsters. Eddie is still going fast.
Stay out of Boats Eddy! Thank you,73s
So very good to see my Fav Drag Racer on YT..I wish you and Ersa the very best!73sTY
Wow, you just left them!!!
Your looking real good Eddy.Fantastic.You gave me big joy when you ran the Bannana,Very good to see you.As far as buying the car.Well I need teeth n shoes bro.Very good to see you say hello to your wife.73s
The acceleration of that thing is impressive. Great job Eddie. Tom
why heel-toe when you aren't keeping the revs up near redline most of the time while driving? no hate just asking what diff it makes
It’s a reasonable question, but just remember that the only purpose for heal-and-toe in a race is to prevent the engine drag from causing any additional braking force. There is nothing to gain from revving the engine any higher or doing it any earlier than necessary. Racers can do huge throttle blips if they want, but Eddie is carefully pressing that pedal just enough to match revs with no wasted time or energy. That’s the way heal-and-toe should be taught. Plus, his running 1:22’s in traffic with DOT tires is really impressive!
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, Street legal almost everywhere, Mine in Texas, Jay Leno's in Cal. I'm the dealer for these Ariel Atoms and have sold sixteen of them so far. Huge fun, and they are very reliable, with hardly any maintenance required. Eddie
honda engine are the best
Horrible racing question....what kind of MPG do the Atoms get?
I didn't realize that this is THEE Eddie Hill WOW I know now who and ware I'll be purchasing mine further information? Website?my name is Russ sherry. 😎👍👍
Vernard Pugh 4 years late but were you double clutching your downshifts or just heel-toeing? Hard to tell when you downshift so fast.
Eddie, Steve Gibbs sent me this. Great to see you still out there racing. That thing really flies. Is it street legal like that too? Wish we could see you at drag strips... in a twin Pontiac, dual slick nostalgia car perhaps. You are a class act , sir.
Two thumbs UP to the camera man who understood his viewers -- thoroughly enjoyed how we could see _both_ the track and your leg work for us curious folk!! I could only imagine the other drivers faces as you passed them ! :-) Fantastic power/weight ratio + superb driving made this a pure joy to watch (and I don't even like 99% of sports!)
Thanks for the kind words Michael. Glad you enjoyed the video. If it was fun to watch, imagine the thrill driving! Automotive nirvana!
I've dragged knee at the track so I can totally relate to the thrill of driving -- automotive nirvana indeed ! Many fun and safe races !
You're still going strong Eddie! Thumbs up
