I remember seeing part of "Le Voyage dans la Lune" on TV, as part of coverage of the Apollo 11 mission. So I knew a little of Melies. I heard of "Hugo," and right now have a DVD copy on loan from Netflix. I've watched it over and over. I find it ironic that some day, its blue-&-red palette (for 3D) will also some day seem quaint and old-fashioned. It will still be a wonderful look at even older wonders. :-)
Psychedelia a la 1902. That color is hallucinatory and gorgeous and really helps kick the films fantastics into a whole different level of visual experience. Although the film was hand colored, frame by frame, I read that it was done in commercial, post production studios set up especially to do that. Be great if the colorizers of today could make such intense, vibrant colors. Of course they will sooner or later.
And thank you for sharing this clip. I wish Melies could get a visit by time machine, to show him how such short films are ideal for TH-cam. :-)

Hugo brought me here.
No, "Tonight Tonight" is inspired by "Le voyage dans la lune / The trip to the moon"
Anybody knows who's the song author? or is just parts of known melodies?

Where can I watch the copy found in 2002? Has it been digitized and uploaded to the internet?
