I was a child when I first heard about Lea. There was an air play of her song on the radio "I am but a small voice" and the DJ said that the song is from Lea Salonga. Eversince then, I've been a fan!
Having been born and raised in the USA, I first learned about Lea when she starred in MISS SAIGON. I eventually learned that she had been performing since she was 7, working in various mediums. I knew she had played the lead in ANNIE at age 9. But it didn’t really sink in until this interview that Lea was probably the original ANNIE in the Philippines - in 1980. The original Broadway musical of ANNIE opened in 1977 and the film wouldn’t come out until 1982. Grabe!
