Potholes in Your Colon: Could it be Diverticulosis?
Diverticulosis is the direct result of a diet that’s too low in fiber. When your colon has to contract more vigorously to expel small, hard stool that’s characteristic of a low-fiber diet, it causes a lot of pressure in the wall of your colon. This leads to small bulges, which eventually become diverticulosis. I’m seeing more and more patients in their twenties and thirties with diverticulosis, a disease that’s supposed to strike in your 60s and 70s, and the explanation is on our plate. In this episode: how to reverse symptoms and halt progression of diverticulosis.

Thank you so much for the helpful video. My husband is in the ER with bright red blood coming out instead of stool, and pain in colon, CT scan shows no blockage and normal appendix, etc. He has elevated WBCs and neutrophils. The doctors put him on a broad spectrum IV for 3 days now so that his WBCs and neutrophils would reduce, which they did, but the antibiotics are surely causing unwanted issues. And now his magnesium is low. They are scoping today. My husband argues and rolls his eyes when I mention diet. He lied and told the doctors that he is vegan. He was vegan never. He was more macrobiotic (vegetarian plus fish) for years but 2 years ago jumped off the wagon and now eats everyone (corned beef is a favorite of his, sausage omelettes, sausage pizza, cow ice cream, cake, fried food, alcohol, etc.) The Drs said that because his WBC and neutrophils were so high, they think there is a mystery "infection." They don't know how bad his diet has been for 2 years. And he looks fit, muscular, tall and lean and healthy so they probably believe his lies. Dr. House always said "patients lie." True. I wonder what his doctors know about autoimmune disorders. I wonder if what he is experiencing is inflammation from terrible diet or if it truly is some mystery "infection." C Diff test and Giardia both negative. Help anyone? Do the mainstream doctors even know about autoimmunity happening in the colon, and if yes, why the antibiotics instead of one of the autoimmune drugs that you mention in this video? And which of those drugs are more toxic and which are more safe? Maybe his doctors will prescribe one, and I'd like to know which are safest. I tried to read through the transcript but couldn't find the answer. Thank you again. Truly grateful.

I appreciate your gastro knowledge. I've had issues in the past that was a nightmare partially due to a young gastro doc that perhaps wasn't experienced enough not sure. First he found a mass and without a biopsy he informed me I had cancer. I didn't! Also he removed 3 polys one of which began bleeding 6 days after the colonoscopy. I came close to passing out alone at home but a kind neighbor rushed me to the hospital. I loss a significant amount of blood before they finally stopped it. I was terrified. Later a wonderful surgeon performed the colon resection that was necessary to remove the mass and upon doing a biopsy on the interior portion of the mass he happily told me I did not have cancer. Experience counts. Mistakes are made.

I was diagnosed with a tortuous colon after a colonoscopy. Even though the results said I had no polyps I am wondering if the exam was thorough enough since Google said a redundant colon makes colonoscopies "more difficult". Should I keep doing colonoscopies every few years? Are there other types of exams that can tell if I have polyps, diverticulitis, etc.?

Glad I found this. I'm in Australia. There are no doctors like you here. Everything is about drugs. I mostly do diet with the only drug I take is sulfasalazine. No Biologics, No other immunosuppressants. I have No history of UC or any other type of IBD.

Hi. I used to eat a lot of apples, but for the last few years, even eating half an apple will cause le lots of very smelly gas. Is there anything I can do to be able to enjoy apples again?

I have received a conditional offer for Public health at Imperial College London. My research interests is on diet and lifestyle factors influencing hypertension. My dad died from hypertension in Sierra Leone and this has led me to drop from pursuing my MD degree here in Saint Lucia
