Potholes in Your Colon: Could it be Diverticulosis?
Diverticulosis is the direct result of a diet thatâs too low in fiber. When your colon has to contract more vigorously to expel small, hard stool thatâs characteristic of a low-fiber diet, it causes a lot of pressure in the wall of your colon. This leads to small bulges, which eventually become diverticulosis. Iâm seeing more and more patients in their twenties and thirties with diverticulosis, a disease thatâs supposed to strike in your 60s and 70s, and the explanation is on our plate. In this episode: how to reverse symptoms and halt progression of diverticulosis.

Gut feelings and butterflies in the stomach are real sensations rooted in physiology: many of the neurotransmitters that our brain uses are actually made in our gut, and our digestive tract is home to about 500 million nerve cells. Right on time, Dr. Chutkan. I was just diagnosed during a routine colonoscopy. No symptoms, yet. Grateful for your information. Thank you.
I absolutely LOVE all of your podcast episodes. Your books and information literally saved my life and I constantly continue to learn from you. A couple of years ago I was so sick, I was actually in hospice. Doctors didn't know what to do with me. I finally found you and your information, took charge of my own health, graduated hospice and 2 + years later I'm healthy and thriving! Thank you so much for all that you do. ðĨē
Interesting that the 'genetic' component occurs around the dining table! So much practical advice, especially to read the test results oneself. In gratitude for your empowering the public.
So glad I found you! I'm waiting 9 weeks to see a GI and have been running to the bathroom for 11 weeks ðĨš I'll try psyllium!! Thank you!!
Absolutely awesome video. I only wish I could have a doc like you. Much appreciated!
So, what to do
Excellent, thank you!
Thanks for listening!
Excellent conversation. Thanks to both of you.
Excellent investigation and information! I finally asked my GI NP about parasites following five years of new onset GI signs and symptoms (58 years of a 'normal' GI system). She said, "If you see a big worm in your toilet, then I can help you." Your videos have clarified and corrected many answers to questions. Thank you!
So glad this episode was helpful!
You are reconfirming what my gastro said. Thank you! Iâve learned a lot from you. I first heard you on Mel Robbins podcast.
What if you're having a bad run of painful constipation and take Miralax for 3 days straight on clear liquid diet with no result ? Abdominal x-ray reveal no blockage
Whatâs the name of the doctor you are interviewing?
Dr Paul Thesiger
Absolutely eye opening video, Doctor. I have been sick for over two years trying to figure out what I have but just recently figured out that it was Aerophagia. I should have known because I have a cervical spine injury since Iraq about 15 yrs ago, with lots of scarring. It has made it tricky for me to swallow at times, and Iâve noticed that since that injury, I actually have to force myself to burp. You have given so much good advice here and I am very grateful. ðâĪïļ I wish you were my doctor!
We owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the late Dr. Jeff Bradstreet who was a pioneer in the gut/autism connection. He gave his life dong this research.
Thank you for pointing that out!
Thank you so much for the helpful video. My husband is in the ER with bright red blood coming out instead of stool, and pain in colon, CT scan shows no blockage and normal appendix, etc. He has elevated WBCs and neutrophils. The doctors put him on a broad spectrum IV for 3 days now so that his WBCs and neutrophils would reduce, which they did, but the antibiotics are surely causing unwanted issues. And now his magnesium is low. They are scoping today. My husband argues and rolls his eyes when I mention diet. He lied and told the doctors that he is vegan. He was vegan never. He was more macrobiotic (vegetarian plus fish) for years but 2 years ago jumped off the wagon and now eats everyone (corned beef is a favorite of his, sausage omelettes, sausage pizza, cow ice cream, cake, fried food, alcohol, etc.) The Drs said that because his WBC and neutrophils were so high, they think there is a mystery "infection." They don't know how bad his diet has been for 2 years. And he looks fit, muscular, tall and lean and healthy so they probably believe his lies. Dr. House always said "patients lie." True. I wonder what his doctors know about autoimmune disorders. I wonder if what he is experiencing is inflammation from terrible diet or if it truly is some mystery "infection." C Diff test and Giardia both negative. Help anyone? Do the mainstream doctors even know about autoimmunity happening in the colon, and if yes, why the antibiotics instead of one of the autoimmune drugs that you mention in this video? And which of those drugs are more toxic and which are more safe? Maybe his doctors will prescribe one, and I'd like to know which are safest. I tried to read through the transcript but couldn't find the answer. Thank you again. Truly grateful.
As one who has had a high fiber diet for years, could slow motility due to a nerve related issue cause it?
Well, I wanna get a poop transplant.
This is so interesting thanks so much. The way you explain it makes me understand this more âĪ
Very informative, thank you. Would love more talks from you on menopause.
Thank you
Hello Dr Robynne. What do you think about Slippery Elm?
Dr.Robynne you saved my life about 10 years ago . I never heard leaky gut before. I learned I had leaky gut from your demonstration on dr. Oz show . I had 9/10 on the Leaky gut symptoms demo. I live in an area surrounded by cattle ranches that are really close and one big feedlot about 20 miles outside of town. You can't smell the cows in pastures but when the wind blows just right you can smell that feedlot. When you drive by it, the smell is so bad it will literally make your eyes water. I hate it on so many levels.
I would love to start making your Gutbliss green smoothies but I am worried about oxalates in green smoothies - is it something I should be cautious about?
I appreciate your gastro knowledge. I've had issues in the past that was a nightmare partially due to a young gastro doc that perhaps wasn't experienced enough not sure. First he found a mass and without a biopsy he informed me I had cancer. I didn't! Also he removed 3 polys one of which began bleeding 6 days after the colonoscopy. I came close to passing out alone at home but a kind neighbor rushed me to the hospital. I loss a significant amount of blood before they finally stopped it. I was terrified. Later a wonderful surgeon performed the colon resection that was necessary to remove the mass and upon doing a biopsy on the interior portion of the mass he happily told me I did not have cancer. Experience counts. Mistakes are made.

I really like your ideas and energy
Kiwi, mango, beetroot. All good.
I was diagnosed with a tortuous colon after a colonoscopy. Even though the results said I had no polyps I am wondering if the exam was thorough enough since Google said a redundant colon makes colonoscopies "more difficult". Should I keep doing colonoscopies every few years? Are there other types of exams that can tell if I have polyps, diverticulitis, etc.?
Can I exercise with losis
Of course it keeps things moving
UC here.
Glad I found this. I'm in Australia. There are no doctors like you here. Everything is about drugs. I mostly do diet with the only drug I take is sulfasalazine. No Biologics, No other immunosuppressants. I have No history of UC or any other type of IBD.
Loved it! Could you talk more about gut health and menopause/post menopause? Thank you!
Amazing information! Thank you so much. I got yout book Gutbliss and I'm reading through it. Done your smoothie for 2 days now (I love it) and I'm really concerned about constipation so this class gave me so much useful information! Thank you
