Six Months Modeling Progress - Making Scifi Troopers in Blender
Just a recap of six months' progress in sporadically working to learn blender. I wanted to make 3d printable models for my skirmish wargame, and wound up falling in love with the modeling/sculpting/texturing process. Right now I'm working on designing more models which will be released for cheap!

Idle animation prototype... the fingers are still wrecked XD. I'm testing animation principles from the course I'm taking. So far, I'm enjoying the process a lot. This should let me produce lots of differently posed DROP Troops for future FFIH adventure books!

Field Rifle - 3d model experiment in texture painting

This is a newer version of the 3d model I made for the FEET FIRST INTO HELL Field Rifle. I'm continuing to learn about 3d modeling in the evenings, and I've started to study texturing. This model took ~2.5 hours to model, texture, and then "animate" (see: rotate and zoom, lol). I don't have any concrete plans for these assets, but I am enjoying learning about the process. Ok, I've learned a fair bit more about modeling, rendering, and video editing. This is a reveal of the Combat Drone model I've been concepting for a bit. Huge credit to the GameDev.TV blender courses. They've been an awesome learning resource.
How did you paint the base?
Slowly! I worked from the lowest colors up, so the browns on the soil and grays on the rocks. The night lords came last; many of them were base coated in sub assembly and then dry brushed for highlighting once they were all together. The base took forever! Thanks for asking though.

They look pretty good. It’s a good take on something called a swarmer that doesn’t rely on nothing but teeth. Also I’m a sucker for bipedal designs
Hey, thanks! Yeah, I had this idea in my head for a monster that ran like a chicken, but was all sleek carapace and bones, and this was what came out of it. Bit xenomorph, bit predator, bit poultry-inspired nightmare!

Is there a line of minis specifically for FFIH?
It's miniature agnostic. You can use 3d printed ones off etsy, or 40k minis, or anything really so long as it's in 28mm scale.
I'm terrible about noticing comments! Sorry! We use a mixture of stuff, but the Anvil minis are my personal favorite. The drop team we run on our table is all Anvil-designed!
