Birds, bees and bats seen in thermal with the Pulsar Telos XP50 thermal spotter

This is the Pulsar Telos XP50 hand held thermal camera. We went on a wildlife walk for just a few hours around dusk with the Pulsar Telos XP50 thermal camera to see what we could see. It had been one of the wettest springs on record in the UK, with rivers flooded and this had been my first opportunity in weeks to get outside to see what we could find. Hopefully the wild animals of Warwickshire ...

Hi Dave great video thanks. We met at the BSS last year with my wife and you asked us what more we would like from my Merger 50’s? I didn’t think of it at the time but we would like to see is instant playback through the device rather than having to download to a pc etc. Do you know if Pulsar are planning this. It would be even better if this was offered as a free firmware update. We run Merger, Telos, Axion, Thermion, Talion and c50’s so this function would be a great highlight if possible. ATB Steve.
That's a great idea Steve; I would certainly use it. I'll pass that on to Pulsar HQ. Many thanks
I'm impressed with the Merger XP50 LRF but these look like they are on another level
I'm sure the colour palettes really come into their own on the XT's bigger sensor - violet might even be the new black!
Nice review that Dave and I must admit I was surprised to see the XQ performing better in the rain so definitely a plus point for the cheaper model.
Cheers - A case of buy the best tool for the job. And if you're inclined to be out a lot in ALL weathers, then the cheaper XQ PRO could be the one!
@TJ-Focus Absolutely. Sometimes the cheaper option is more beneficial depending on your needs.
Lovely videos Dave ❤ from Dj John Sweden
Thanks. If there's anything you'd like to see, drop us a message.
Would you recommend the pulsar xq30 pro or the pixfra ranger 635 for spotting birds and small mammals
It's all down to your priorities...This guide will explain and help you choose: th-cam.com/video/cA1IbOg3FCY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lXLanzecjCNFqg0Z
Great video showing how the Pulsar Telos compares with other thermals bird spotting here: th-cam.com/video/v_DTaPtWor8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ofe6pGYw8-3pmQwh
Awesome comparison. Price increase for higher resolution seems justified
Only £250 more for a bigger sensor, bigger lens and focusable is a BARGAIN!
You forgot to show the audience the scope in operation.
This video just introduces the Mile2. As there are x9 different options in the range we've produced dedicated, more focused videos to show the key differences of specific models, which does include images recorded through the device. Here's an example: th-cam.com/video/okUvZY498lo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ei9YHi-GcgKxx7ED
Looks a nice little unit for the price 👍
Nice little video Dave, I was impressed with the M425 I reviewed. Liked and subscribed 👍
Thanks Jim - just taken a look at your review of the Mile M425 - A lot of people will find that really helpful. Good job! 👍
@TJ-Focus thanks Dave I appreciate you taking the time to watch it. I'm being sent the top model this week so I'm looking forward to trying that one out.
@@jimwood No worries. Seeing how real users get on with it , in different conditions for different habitats and different sized animals, at all kinds of realistic ranges is so helpful to anyone considering one of these Pixfras. Best of luck with it.
@TJ-Focus I completely agree. We all have our own ways of going about our hunting and not every thermal spotter is ideal so it's always good to get a feel of different products to find which one suits your needs best.
You should do movie voice overs
I'm open to offers! 😂
Whats the weather condition
This followed a prolonged period of heavy rain (enough to flood the rivers here). It was dry for most of the filming with some light rain while filming the bats. Humidity would have been in the 80-90%'s. Not ideal for filming thermal but we think it's important to see this kit in all conditions.
@TJ-Focus thank you for the information. I'm trying to get a thermal for squirrel hunting, I live in a hot and humid state in the USA. But gets alittle cool in the winter. Do you have a thermal u use for that condition. I want to be able to spot the squirrel in the tree line
@@TinyTargetsBigAdventures For the weather conditions you need a low NETD (<25mK). I imagine you're only close range but, you have the same challenge as birdwatchers: trying to find something small that's likely to be partially hidden by leaves and branches. For this I'd recommend the biggest sensor you can afford for your budget (minimum 384 pixels but preferably more). I suggest you prioritise a wide field of view over a big native mag. Your own field skills will enable you to distinguish squirrel from bird by it's movement, so the task is more about scanning an area efficiently to quickly find the squirrels. This guide to finding the right thermal for your needs might be of help too: th-cam.com/video/cA1IbOg3FCY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Fw7blknvDcHp6MqY
@TJ-Focus Thank you. You've been helpful. The lowest base mag I could find on pulsar is 2.5X that I could afford. My budget is 3k. I'm looking at the Talion XQ35 Pro. I just don't know if it would do the job. I'm also trying to decide if I should go with a Monocular or a Scope.
@@TinyTargetsBigAdventures That's easy - the biggest challenge you're trying to solve is how to find the squirrels. Get a spotter. Go to your local stockist and try these: Axion 2 XQ35 Telos XQ35 Telos XP50
Everything I needed to know, answered all my questions, cheers guys
You're welcome - more to come on different models.
Great video Dave, both units look incredible. Personally I think the XP35 would suit my shooting needs best.
Glad it's helped you to choose between the two - it's often a difficult choice with a lot of money at stake. But that's why we do these videos.
Top quality!
Thanks
