Lake Union Live
United States

I collect snapshots every 5 seconds from a webcam near my house on the northeast corner of Lake Union in Seattle and publish them to lakeunion.nameworthy.net/. Every day after "dark", I combine all the snapshots into a timelapse video and upload it to TH-cam.
I'm mesmerized by the layers of clouds and how they move against each other; I love seeing the paths of planes before and after dark; I love watching the boats zip by. It's nice to find a particularly interesting section of video and slow it down to appreciate some of the details.
I use a basic Amcrest IP8M-2496EW-28MM camera and have it write JPEGs to a local FTP server on a Raspberry Pi. The FTP daemon uploads every new JPEG to a S3 bucket. A systemd timer runs the script that selects the JPEG frames and pipes them to ffmpeg to create a 60fps video. Each has ~10,000 frames!

Oh and a nice neighborly shovel of the dock at around 1015pm!
Around 2pm in this video I concluded the ‘fog’ is really a lot of smoke 😷 yikes!
