VISITING THE GRAVE OF CIVIL WAR GENERAL JAMES EWELL BROWN (JEB) STUART
Major General J.E.B. Stuart distinguished himself during the Civil War as General Robert E. Lee's premier calvary officer. James Ewell Brown Stuart was born in Patrick County, Virginia. After graduating from West Point in 1854, he became a first lieutenant in the United States Army and was posted in the west where he became an Indian Fighter In 1859, he was sent with Robert E. Lee to go to Harpers Ferry to stop the raid of John Brown. After Brown's raiders were surrounded in the town, Stuart volunteered to issue the ultimatum to Brown before the final assault. In 1861, he resigned is commission and joined the Confederate Cavalry. He was promoted several times in the first few months of the war, eventually becoming a Major General in July of 1862. He led the cavalry in the battles at Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and many others. He was wounded in a cavalry battle in Yellow Tavern, on the outskirts of Richmond, on May 11, 1864, and died the next day in the capital city.

Jessie was a controversial person. He did have a child with a black woman, and it was kept quiet. After his death, the daughter was interviewed by Oprah. As hard as Oprah tried, she was not able to succeed in trying to have his daughter speak ill of him. The daughter said she knew who her father was, he acknowledged her, financially supported her, and she had a relationship with her father. Despite his faults, as well all have, he did the right thing.
