Sailing a 1981 47' Mariner in there next week. You just gave us a real shot at safely doing this! Thank you so much
you can thank the US Army Corps of Engineers for the rock wall
I am 81 and sail a 42 foot New Zelan schooner (Te Hongi). born and bread in WashingtonNC....hope you get tostop there. I lived on Bridge Street. Have a goof trip. tom
Another failed and dead sailing channel. TH-cam is becoming a graveyard of dead sailing channels.
I’m thinking about installing one in my boat, but I’m in doubt about how the gen 2 actuators work. Does your antenna kept realigning as the boat moves, even at anchor? I’m abroad and here they still sell the gen 2 antenna. The less power hungry gen 2 is a plus, but I don’t know if this is the best option (due to the presence of the motors) or if it’s better to wait for the gen 3 antenna. Disabling the motors would not be the ideal solution for me as I intend to also use the antenna at my house.
Why did you stop posting videos?
We had taken a break, but we should be posting more soon. Stay tuned!
Cause they realized that owning a sailboat is expensive, and living on a sailboat sucks.
Nice channel what kind of scooters do you have? Are you happy with them?
We had the Gotrax commuter scooters, they were great. We sold them and got ebikes, it's a more comfortable ride.
why make the cut like that? why not go to the BI Buoy as marked and head straight in, wouldn't that be the "safest" approach according to charts?
I was thinking the same thing. There is another video of another Captain who states to start your navigation into the inlet from the BI Bouy. This would avoid having to navigate northward if you were coming from the south. However, I believe there can be very large breakers in that outer channel therefore I suppose it would be safer to go up north like this Captain is saying, then head south to Red Bouy #6.
Sigh... That dog is still alive. Leaving from St Augustine tomorrow. I'm coming to wok that dog.
Just like Elon, is a silly design.
That oak cannot even design a matchbox, all his designs are basically taken. I got even prove. He would not be honest .
We are wanting one of these so bad
We love it, really no complaints so far.
St Augustine is awesome !
We loved it! Definitely will be back.
Having sailed Barnegat Inlet for close to 40 years, I must say that your comments such as "ignore the markers" etc. are really beyond reason. Incidentally the north "wall" as you describe it is also known as a breakwater. This should be the first clue that your info is a lot less than helpful. Study upo, take your time, and maybe in the future you can provide helpful and SAFE info.
Thanks for the kind words. Over your 40 years of sailing I do believe the inlet has been dredged and shoaled over in all sorts of ways. When I made this video at the time I am telling the current conditions of entering and exiting the inlet. My words are to be used as a guideline. I say wall.. you say breakwater guess . We are both wrong cause its really the "North Jetty " same shit you hit it you sink. lol I say markers. you say buoy. same thing its a object in the water that is a navigation mark. A buoy "Marks the channel" therefore its a marker. And I have got many messages thanking me for giving safe passage to boaters who were scared to enter the inlet. It was helpful and they made it in and out safe.
Great video! Thank you for taking us along. Miss you guys!
still watching your journey. do you plan to go to the bahamas
Hey Shorty! It’s a strong possibility for the spring of 23. We’ll decide as it gets closer.
Have you tried it underway at all? I have seen the base hard mounted, and being used on RV's and on cars out on the Highway doing 90+mph, and on other boats in rocky stormy conditions. I know there are still a lot of holes in their service they are working on filling with each batch of microsatellites they send up. So you might hit areas on crossings where you would lose connection, but the only issues I have seen with people using it in motion are quick disconnects, in the millisecond range which affect things like online gaming where split second reaction times matter. A few other sailers have videos saying they do have very high power consumptions in rocky stormy conditions. But they are still able to use their streaming services at the highest resolution, and use their phones on wifi connection without any noticible issues. I'd love to see you hard mount the dish outside, then do some sailing and motoring and see if you can stay connected in and around your home area, and report back in your follow-up review. Some people have also said in comments on other videos they are planning on getting a multi axis gimbal systems to mount the dish to on their boats to hopefully further cut down on how much the fish motor has to run and cut their power consumption. But as of yet I haven't seen anyone put a specific brand and model they have tried and had success with.
We haven’t tried it underway yet but will be testing soon. So far we haven’t experienced any outages during heavy rain storms, the dish doesn’t seem to move a whole lot, we haven’t disabled the motor. When running on the inverter it’s only drawing between 5-10 Amps which isn’t terrible depending on conditions. Stay tuned for our next follow up video, Thank you for watching!
almost all information given in this video is incorrect
I think you just ran everyone aground. From what I understand that rock wall continues past that red maker #6 and you should come in from maker #1
Nope boated there for 20 years rock wall goes to the daymarker as I mentioned this is local knowledge. From what you understand ? Like what you were told ? Or you navigate through there all the time and know this? The way I explained helped many boaters and for other who look at a map have ran aground. . I wouldn't steer people wrong lol
I'm sorry. I could not make it through the entire video. Too many technical missteps and inaccurate comments. Sigh...
agree
The dish is not smaller. The only difference between home starlink and rv starlink is the additional cost for roaming and rv allows you to pause the account when not in use
They have another dish that is 22x20 I assumed that was the home use one. Our dish is 19x12.
@@SailingMTPockets Im going to have to disagree. Starlink has only offered 2 dish sizes. 22.3 inch round (discontinued in US) and its replacement 19 x 12 inch. The 20x22 dish is for commercial use $2500.00 plus $500 per month
Cool, which one do you have and how are you liking it?
How r u?~ unreal channel- ;)
Smells terrible. There used to be a lot of paper mills in the area that really smelled bad.
Great to see Penny having fun in the park. The Dolphine were cool too. Lights were awesome. Where did you eat? s
We had a blast, here are a few we loved and would recommend: A1A Aleworks, Pizzalley’s Chianti room, Mojo old city bbq, burrito works taco shop, grilled cheese gallery, Harry’s, Athena restaurant, Casa Reina, Pizza Time and so much more!
Great video guys! Love the Forked River and Meadowlands reference!! So nice seeing Penny enjoying the doggie park.
It's the paper mills
Another great video. Eggs will only be fertile if there is a rooster,Chickens do not need a rooster to lay eggs
Enjoying your channel. I had to laugh when you didn’t want to stop off because it would’ve taken you 8 miles out of your way. Cape May New Jersey is as far south as Annapolis.
I know right! lol The weather we were working with was awful so we had no choice but to stay inside.
Great video! Looking forward to more “how to” videos!! Can’t wait to see more videos from Mike’s Yacht Services!
Great video.
Thanks Bob
@@SailingMTPockets I do have a question for you. I put the boat in the water, the cold water faucets works great however the hot water ones have low pressure. This is our first time with a boat with a water heater. Some water does come out but low pressure, pump is running then stops. I wait, do it again and same thing. Some one suggested I have an air bubble. I tried a few different things, any thought? Thanks.
@@bobpublik7037 Hunters have a water manifold under the sink. Make sure if someone winterized it for you they didnt close a valve on the hot water side for your hot water heater. another thing you have strainers on the hose connection on your mixing valve attached to hot water heater . the screens can be clogged with derbis.. you can also open the drain on hot water heater and run the water at the same time to bleed the air. dont forget to open the faucet on your swim platform to let the air out of there also
@@jerseymike119 I thought I responded to this but I don't see it. First, thank you. I did some of what you suggested but I'll go over it again when I get to the boat this weekend.
Hi Bob, I agree with Mike about checking the water manifold under the galley sink.
Hey guys it was great meeting you tonight on the tiki taxi , great video and crazy fog, hope to catch up with you guys again
Great meeting you and your family! Thank you for following us on our journey! Let us know the next time your in town!
@@SailingMTPockets we sure will
Wow that fog was intense. I would have panicked. I'm glad you guys made it out safe.
Great video, that was some thick fog. Happy Birthday.
Thanks Bob!
Great video guys! Now that was some fog! Holy cow. You guys did a great job. Thank you for taking us along on your journey!!
It’s too bad we missed Cumberland Island because we couldn’t see it, supposedly there are wild horses. Maybe next time we’ll see them!
happy birthday still keeping may eye on you and enjoying your trip
Thank you!
Ok it’s 90 nautical miles from forked river to cape may ?
From the top of forked river NJ to Atlantic city then to cape may Yes its only 90
Great video. Looks like you're having fun. :) Did you have a Raymarine E80 Chartplotter on the boat when you got it? If you did, then it looks like you put in a new Raymarine unit. What unit are you using? Did you put it yourself. Thanks. Safe travels.
Yes e80. We changed it out for the raymarine axiom.9. Yes I installed everything on our boat. With AIS transponder and Quantum radar. We also use a iPad with aqua maps. Our boat is fully outfitted if you need help let me know .
@@jerseymike119 Thank you for getting back to me. I will get the raymarine Axiom 9 as well. I'm interested in taking out the E80 and not putting the Axiom 9 in the same place. I know I can get a bracket for it, we'll see. I want to be drive the boat sitting if that's possible. Not sure I'll do it this year. I came all the way up from St. Augustine using just the IPad and Aqua maps and Navionics. I assume you got the cable raymarine sells to get it too work with all the other existing systems. How long did it take you? Thanks again.
@@bobpublik7037 Axiom 9 is a great unit. they do sell the adapter plate from e80 to axion. Yes you will need a seatalk backbone. I will be doing some technical videos soon on lets of things.
@@jerseymike119 Thanks Mike, I appreciate it.
Great video! The footage of the dolphins was awesome! And also loved the sunrise. Great job MT Pockets! ⛵️😊
enjoying the ride keep it up !
keep it up. keep documenting. Fill the grand canyon with boat footage.
Be extremely careful with an outgoing tide and east southeast wind
You all don't anchor out very often!
We do from time to time, weather depending.
Another great video guys! Hunter sailboats sure are nice looking! ⛵️
Thanks Tom! Yes, Hunters are definitely the best kept secret!
Cool video. Marvin from FB Hunters Group.
Thanks Marvin!
Hi there we have a hunter 410 1998 and we are heading south from Georgian bay Ontario to the Bahamas this summer!! We will drop the mast to go through the Oswego canal to the Hudson then Icw down to Florida. It looks like your mast cleared the whole way down?? Any tips for us newbies? We bought the Bob423 Icw guide
Our mast height is 64 ft, we didn’t have any issues until South Carolina, wound up timing the fixed bridges with low tide, we didn’t have any issues. Will you be spending the fall in FL or heading back up north? Make sure you provision well for North Carolina and subscribe to AquaMaps. You can overlay bob’s tracks and that will show you the depth from USCG surveys. If you plan on staying at marinas, a 50 amp to 2 30 amp adapter is a must. Also, 2 17” fender balls, many marinas are side ties. I’ll let you know if I think of anything else and feel free to ask away if there’s something your unsure of. Fair Winds 😉⛵️
Great video. Looks like you're having fun. What's your draft? Are you following bob423's tracks?
Thanks Bob, having a blast. Our draft is 5ft, We use Bob’s tracks in conjunction with aqua maps and Navionics.
@@SailingMTPockets Glad to hear. My wife and are watching because you're going through the same place I just came through in May except the opposite way, great stuff. I'm a little confused when you were talking about depth going through some area and you had to go at high tide. Bob423 has said the ICW depth is 7 feet at MLLW all along the route. Was that an area off the ICW you were in and hence you had to make it high tide or close to it. Just curious.
Yes, we took the ICW the whole way. Watts cut has had a lot of shoaling this year and some parts are close to 4ft at low tide. You really need the tide to get through if your draft is 5’ or greater. www.waterwayguide.com/nav-alert/4-8176/sc-watts-cut-shoaling-mm-503
In October when Bob 423 was heading South he and alot of other cruisers noted alot of shoaling and markers missing. Bob updated all his tracks and everyone needed up download the updates . Alot of planning and constant updates to charts are needed when doing the trip. We had zero issues . Even the little mud river in Georgia. Bob reported alot of things they actually started to set up dredges at the reported shoaling.. it was great to see.
Another great video from MT Pockets!! Definitely learning a lot from you guys about the ICW. Keep those videos coming!! ⛵️
Thanks Tom!
Excellent video! I love the 360 camera! Some of those shots were cool. I love how you talk about the different areas you are traveling to and through. Can’t wait for the next video!! 😊
Thank you! Having a blast, still getting our feet wet with the editing but it’s coming along. ⛵️
Nice to see you guys sailing again! it was actuall6 16 Degs Fahrenheit this morning 7am, highs was 20 degrees highs today 1/11/2022 and will continue for most of the week. Stay warm friends!
Thanks friend! Stay warm!
Great descriptive video. Makes me feel like I'm there. Good luck on your journey.
Thanks!
Tiffany, keep up the great work. Mike, I'm rather disappointed in you. We're eight episodes in and you haven't even threatened to eat that dog yet. We talked about this. "Episode 9: Uh... Where'd Penny Go?"
Thanks Matt! Hope all is well and we will see you soon!
