Losing to Lui Kang is one thing in the original story but after that, in nearly every timeline he has canonically lost to Johnny Cage. In the original, reboot, and movies. The only other person to truly hand him an L besides Johnny is his daughter Cassie. But there is a huge reason for that. They are bred from God killers. They have their green abilities to fend off and hurt beings like elder gods and an elder god like shinnok who is much more powerful and reliant on his powers than his fighting skills which are still god tier, kinda doesnt match up well there. We see it in MKX the best. No one really could stop him until a Cage used their green aura.
