Broken Promises: South African community with water it can't drink
มุมมอง 1622 ปีที่แล้ว
In 2019 I put together this story of a community in Stinkwater north of South Africa's capital Pretoria. No water for more than 19 years and suddenly when water is given to the community, they can't drink it. Mismanagement and clear disconnect of the political elite with the people is cancer that has eaten away the trust people had in the ANC government. Story shot by Peter Moima.

BEHIND THE SCENES

My partner (Peter Moima) and I have sailed through the first and second wave creating content for marginalised communities. This includes LGBTQ, women, children and migrants. We've been derailed by the impact of the coronavirus on funding that kept our work going. But we use this time to regroup and have the audacity to plan for the future in creating content.

Those referring to Mangope as a puppet of the so called "apartheid government" never lived or set-foot in Bophuthatswana during those times. I know a few of my neighbours who were employed in the nearby resort (Morula sun) during Mangope's presidency, more investments were made to build another casino and resort right on this road in the North (Carousel). Black people had jobs under Mangope in the so called "apartheid era". My uncle would say that Bop policemen and soldiers did not smile, and you'd swear Lucas was in their midst. That's exactly what we need right now, looking at the violent crimes in South Africa. This anc is an insult to Batswana.
Beautiful woman

Never forget who you are and what you are where you must go and what you must be
This sure was #LoudAndQueer! Thank you so much for this conversation and for affirming autonomy in each one of us. And interesting enough, when Dr Bev said let's burn the whole system down, I remembered your conversation with Thabiso Mahlape, Matuba. She echoed the same sentiments to say, LET'S BURN THIS WHOLE SHIT DOWN! Let's burn it down because for how long are we going to ask to be seen and included? For how long must we tiptoe around the status quo in fear of who we are? Looking forward to more episodes. Love and Light, always. 🖤🖤💫💫
