Faith, Growth, and the Power of Neurodiverse Minds
In this episode, Sarah features Monique, a therapist and a Christian, to discuss the essence of Faith and how the Christian faith interacts with neurodiversity.
03:47 Meet today's guest, Monique.
06:27 How the neurodiverse brain impacts the mind and personality.
23:30 The idea of sin as a cause of neurodiversity.
42:46 Is the church neurodiversity friendly?
59:50 Final comments from Monique.
Monique is a therapist who specializes in helping children and young people. Occasionally, she also helps adults and families. She currently works for schools and has her practice. Unknown to many people, she was recently diagnosed with Dyslexia.
As a Christian child who was also aware that she didn't learn like everyone else, Sarah had often prayed for God to give her a new brain. When nothing changed, at the age of 16, she drifted away from the church and led a more secular life which frequently left her feeling unfulfilled. Finding it difficult to make headway, she returned to the church at which point she read a book "The Millionaires of Genesis".
This book showed her how Christianity does not equate suffering, prompting her to study the Bible more and see how people were used by God despite their challenges.
Sarah's mindset shift based on the understanding that her challenges can be used by God as a strength eventually initiated positive changes in her life to a point where she has built a business around her neurodiversity. This experience is akin to a Bible story (John 9 vs 1-12), where a man born blind was healed to manifest the works of God.
Interestingly, the people who knew him while he was blind, doubted that he was the same person when he got healed. This doubt also plays out in the lives of neurodiverse people where they are expected to be unproductive because of the perception that neurodiversity completely impairs their functionality. Hence the heavy doubt that they are the same people who struggle with neurodiversity whenever they perform well in certain areas of work.

    • @divineenigma338

@@mel7092 Neurodivergent refers to people whose brains function, learn, and process information differently from what is considered typical. I'm so glad the podcast message resonated with you. It warms my heart to hear that finding a community of neurodivergent women has helped you feel less alone. You're absolutely right - the stigma surrounding neurodivergence can make it incredibly isolating, especially within families. Your kind words mean the world to me, and they fuel my passion for creating a safe space for to share our stories and support each other. "Don't go and work there..." As a 50 year old, I'd like to explain what that sounds like to people of my generation. It sounds like you, like millions in your generation, have taken a diagnosis/behavior/condition that you probably have never spoken to a doctor about, by the way, and turned it into an excuse to absolve yourself of managing your own behavior. The world isn't your nurse. A job can only make allowances for ACTUAL ISSUES. You can't read the word "filter" without being triggered and needing to go into a dark room to cry for 15 minutes isn't an accommodation you should expect them to make. Your problems are YOUR PROBLEMS. If you can't function in the real world, WORK ON THAT. I got my own stuff to sort.

amen. being neurodiverse and Christian is a struggle. since realizing that I am more than likely on the spectrum, and self diagnosing, there’s been a battle to write off not doing or doing certain things because this is who I am, versus discerning the will of God and when He is calling me to deny myself, grow and step out of my comfort zone. it’s a struggle deciphering between what He is calling me to that is uncomfortable/hard vs what I am putting on myself or pushing myself to do to people please or even try to earn approval from God even though he’s already approved of me. it really does take discernment like you said and being willing to grow.
