Lennon thoroughly ran me through how to play the drag when fighting a big fish right before it got completely dark. Then, some how some way, I caught the "DONKEY"!! Land Ba...

This time on Reel Lax Fishing we are land base fishing the South Coast of the North Island in NZ, known as White Rock. Catching many different fish species and camping overnight.
Hi mate, which surfcasting rod and reel are you using?? I am planning to buy a 14ft/15ft rod .. Btb keep Posting cool videos in NZ..🎉 Love from palmy❤
Nice video bro, I fished around Shelly bay and struggle to get them on the hook. Lots of bites just not hooking them. I’m using recurve hooks and just wait for them to hook themselves. Should I strike them or nah?
Hi Josh. When using recurve hooks I don't personally strike. When you see some good bites I usually hold the rod in my hand and reel down until the line is tight. When the fish really run with the bait I will lean back and that motion should set the hook.
good stuff lennon and lyn 🤙🏽
Thank you!! 😊
So much fish in Welly!!
@@FishoDavo definitely gotta catch it on a good day 😭😭🤣

Hi there, i would recommend you to go to a local fishing shop for example, Capital Fishing in Wellington where you can physically feel the rod and reel in person. The shop owners there will talk you through what rod n reel will suit you best within your budget!
So sick! Love the teamwork too. Tight linez!

Where about in auckland is that?
@@bhupmagar3989 honestly we dont really know. We were taken to the spot by our friend.
That was an epic night of wharf fishing with you guys 👍
We can't thank you enough for the awesome time!!
good work on landing a trevally. so fun wen hooked into the light setup but so challenging especialyl with their soft lips. plus some good snappers u landed on camera too
Thank you, man. It was definitely a fishing trip to remember.
Just a tip….lose the sinkers when your off the stones. Your bait will have a more natural appearance to the bigger fish while drifting down and you’ll also snag up less.
Thanks man. I will give that a try next time off the stones. lost a lot of sinkers and hooks on this trip haha
Hi! nice video, i saw you are using mono.. may i ask the brand and pounds ? Thnk you
I am using 10kg mono Momoi on my surfcasting reel. Thanks for watching :)
It is nice video. Where was it?
@@raylee6208 It was in Auckland region which both of us were not familiar with 😅
Hey, love the breakaway rig wallet. Where did you buy it from?
Hey man, I bought it from Capital Fishing but cannot find them sold anywhere anymore sadly
You couldn't have picked the worst shit hole in the country to go fishing
Awesome =)
@@sam4002 Thank you, bro 🙏!!
That big fish was 100% a shark. Tope shark. Do enough straylining and youll get used to its fight. Theres way too many of them around. Not uncommon to have a few per trip.
@redstagwith243 You could be righ 🤔 This was our first time fishing in Auckland.
Love it when the bait runner screams
@FishoDavo always makes my heart skip a beat 😍
Awesome vid bro ❤
@@NewZealandOceanArt I appreciate it, bro
lol ' i got my leader' the most important component haha hate having to retie the leader everytime the line snaps on ya. far out that big bite was epic but a shame you lost it. still great session out on the bricks and good old straylining
@BasicFishingNZ would have been nice to see the fish on the big hit. But that's why we love learning the different methods of fishing!
Long time no see!
@junlu3835 hahaha, surely we'll see you on the wharf soon!!
super trip. Reel~ 🤘
