What is the name of your scraping tool
If it has a 0 purpose then it goes
What you have to do, is Research the home and see exactly what each room was used for . THEN go from there making the changes. Some rooms you think are Bedrooms could have been a "Smoking room". " the Parlor " " the tea room," etc.
Hah! Your Victorian bedrooms have closets? Mine don't!
Love the Trappist Rochefort 10 bottle in the shower. Great beer!
Great video
Thx for the side by side comparison. Anyone think round rungs have any slightest advantage over square? Also factoring degradation in welds round vs square? How bout those triangulation supports, anyone think that bent tube looks less structural than the straight?
I make video game stuff on youtube and im a recruiter- but im going out of town for 5 days tomorrow to some gas station or something and removing plaster ceiling. I suck at manual labor - the guy who owns the company is a friend who wont be there so doesn't care about dust - I'm just going to use this video as my total training for this - ignore his employees - and show everyone i know my stuff... tell everyone what you say in this video ... and I think when i walk away from it i will be a better human being - but .. if I have a question can i ask you on here. its a flat ceiling... in a gas station or whatever we call them these days... i wasn't built for this but im gonna watch this a couple times
Hi Aaron
Dude… I feel your pain. Did all the same crap to 5 room ceilings and a 60 ft long hallway. I luckily had no structural issues. Where did you go?
Demo is my last favorite part. We are in the middle of the same thing. We took out 2 chimneys 1 for HVAC one for plumbing wiring and a dryer vent.
Where have you gone?!
i hope your doing this all in good faith, it's risky renovating Victorian homes because they have a historic nature to them, it's your choice on what you do with it, ubt i hoep you kept the wood working intact, and tried to keep the details and all as close as possible to how it was historically,
Love your reactions! @ 9:25 "Werner, you make awesome ladders... You can do better!" haha
Good ideas that helped me learn a lot of things for various projects. Thanks
This is not the correct way this is a really ghetto way that makes more work and makes the job take longer . Do it right rent a insulation vacuum and do it right don’t be this guy
Ughh I here ya. I did it in my house. Turns out you can rent a blowin insulation vacuum system.
Would love an update!
Wow! cool house. I'm wondering how everything worked out whether you stuck with it until the end or what happened? I've gotten overwhelmed with smaller houses myself but I had to work full-time also.
Make an update!! Also I can't believe you didn't wear a mask with all that insulation flying around. I was in my attic for like 30 minutes and I was coughing like crazy. I ended up buying a leaf vacuum with a long hose attachment for a 30gal trash can. I'm sure I'll fill it like 40 times or something. I'm trying to seal the air gaps and refill the insulation. Our house is always 82° while the AC runs for 14hrs so it's a bad situation. These videos are awesome and the editing on this one is really good. I watched your insulation vacuum video first. I hope you got your house finished!
I like this I would like to see the whole project for the house !
i like his attitude
Slats make great kindling for the fire. That stuff is wicked dry. My house was built in 1853 (Maine).
You shouldn’t have to replace the sheeting do to bad quality.
Leave the chimney but don’t box it up leave the brick exposed.
I bought the Metaltech as it's rated at 1100 lbs, which is more than the Werner. That could be because of the heavier platform on the Metaltech (and it IS heavy.) I had to unpack the box while it was still on my car's roof racks. You should have seen the poor Home Depot guys struggling to get it up there. Btw, the box is 75" long, so don't count on trying to let it stick out the back of your trunk, or across the back seat without measuring. The price of the optional guardrails is not much cheaper than the whole scaffold, so I went back and bought a 2nd scaffold. I was able to do paint most of my garage while sitting at 6' without guardrails, but when I needed to stand up I used parts from the 2nd one to give me something to hold onto. And of course after you stack the second side "ladders" and cross bars, you can simply raise your platform over 6' by squeezing the release bars and pushing it up, where you reconnect it to the holes in the stacked side "ladders." At 8' you'll still have 4' of guardrails. Stacking 2 scaffolds gets you to 12' (but without guardrails). You can always build a makeshift guardrail by bolting some tall 2x4s to each corner, (there are plenty of holes to choose from), then attach more 2x4s horizontally across the front and back, and side to side. If you do it right, it won't move if you have to grab it. Then you'll have some spare lumber to use later as shelves for storage, running the 2x4s across the ladder rungs. Just having something to keep one hand on while standing and painting overhead, makes a world of difference. And if you want to get fancy, use a hook or nail into the 2x4 to hold the paint can.
That’s a great idea. Gonna use it on my 1890 house demo/reno.
Thanks for the scaffold comparison, it was exactly what i was looking for. Metaltech should send you a free one to replace your Werner. lol
How do you take an old hous eand make it work for today's standards? ........You don't. If you want a new house, get a new house...
So what do I ask for if I need that tool your scraping off with?
Wonder what this place looks like now how bout an update ?
What’s the name of the tool that you used to scrape the ceiling?
What is the name of the scraper?
I learned a lot watching your videos since I myself trying to remodel my basement (English Tudor house). Like you said it is a watermelon (specially if you do it alone) a bite a day i know i will get it ready. I wish i can celebrate my work taking a shower with you there.
I'm curious on the progress on the ceiling. What does it look like now?
Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks for this video, was looking for this exact comparison between the two. I will be going with the Metal Tech one cause of your review.

I don't understand what you're whining about. Everything you mentioned is an easy fix; especially since you have absolutely destroyed every inch of lath and plaster in that house; so you won't have to worry about cracking when you jack it up here and there to fix this and that. Another HGTV inspired tragedy.
Hello Aaron, I work for Metaltech and I stumbled across your video. Awesome video! Thanks for the kind words about Metaltech. I have a tiny correction to add....the Werner scaffold capacity is 1000#, the Metaltech is 1100#. Also, please encourage your viewers, when stacking (any brand) PLEASE make sure to install guardrails and outriggers. In fact, I encourage guardrails at any height, but definitely when stacking. I agree with you, Werner makes awesome ladders and Metaltech makes awesome scaffolds.
patrick shahan thanks for pointing that out. Safety is always important and I’ll make sure to pass that on to my viewers when I get my next video out. I’m planning on doing a more in depth review in the future. Thanks for being part of making such a great product. That scaffold has been phenomenal. Very very durable. I may need some more scaffolds in the future, I’ll be looking at metal tech for sure.
Is the metal tech scaffold brand compatible with top locks
dude wear a mask, that stuff is not good for your lungs
is this detroit?
Great video i love it
About to explode is a great song! Also I’d kill for that tile in the bathroom. I hope you are keeping that cabinet somewhere
😯 I hope you put the shoe back! It’s an old superstition that you have a shoe in a wall or floor in your house.
West Dib really?! I didn’t know that. Do you have a link to the history behind that? Sounds really interesting.
Aaron Carroll I believe it came from Europe. But i believe it’s always one shoe and it was to ward off evil spirits. Here’s a wiki page about it: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_shoes
That’s really wild to think that the shoe was placed there intentionally. What an interesting idea. Maybe I can build a glass cabinet into the wall and you can see it. 🤔
I don't usually comment on youtube but your video was exactly what I was looking for. Wanted to see what people thought about these 2 scaffolds. Thanks so much for doing this video comparison.
travelwell72 no problem. Thank you for commenting. I’ll be doing a slightly higher quality review in the future as I continue through this process and see how much of a beating they take.
Also be careful where you get them there is apparently an older version of the metal tech that’s not nearly as good but is still being sold
@@aaroncarroll4158 do they have the same Model number and or Item Number ? or is the new version sold under a different model number
travelwell72 not sure. The old model had a wood top and not the nice black top
I'm buying from HD and their model seems like it's the same as yours with the tough non slip black material on top of the deck. I'll make sure I open the box before purchasing to make sure it looks like yours. Thanks Aaron
How, the hole in the side of the stairway lol
