Writing this storyline It never occurred to me that Elton John would ultimately play it on an Australian stage…so imagine my awe at his producing an entire album of my storylines…view from the diving board= no..Bernie didn’t write those, I wrote each of the cuts’ contents
2023 and still I'm listening to this. My opinion its the best version. Its raw, Ryan's was a bit shabby from the night before. But my god its amazing 💚
Love Ryan. Can’t wait to see him on stage again. The elegance of his songwriting and his musical sensibility are one of a kind. Best songwriter of our generation, hands down.
This is literally the best version of this song I've ever heard. Currently in North Carolina, where I've been for a week. A South Carolinian born and bred. Ryan perfectly captures the pleasures of being from the South.
I know right!!....Ive heard every recorded version of this over and over but the raspyness of his voice and maybe his "state of mind" here kept the tempo a little slower and heartfelt.....hes a much better singer these days but this is classic.
I remember watching him live back In 06 and some wanker in the crowd was heckling him, shouting 'play summer of 69' Ryan got really mad and stormed off of the stage; later on he came back and demanded the guy who was taunting him to come up on stage. at this point I was thinking 'holy shit we're gonna see a live execution' to my disappointment he only got him kicked out. My favourite song of all time though!!
Wow - Steve Earle and Neil Young just smiled. He did a beautiful version of this with the band last night at Massey Hall in Toronto. Different of course. This is sparse and deeply personal. The one with Emmy Lou is also haunting in a different way.
Townes Van Zandt is best American song writer since Bob Dylan, but since Townes started in the 70's, I would say Ryan Adams is the best American song writer since Townes.
Ryan Campbell Hey Ryan, I don't know Townes, this is probably embarrassing but thanks for the tip. If he's in the calibre of the other two names mentioned I'm definitely missing out.
Carolina I used to dream of Carolina Till I moved to Tennessee... Made all my moves when I was younger Now I am sitting on the porch By a road that calls to me Listening to the thunder Of a fast approaching storm Letting memories drag me under While the bottle keeps me warm... M. S. Morrison
I just meant the performance of this song, actually. I think this was a promotional thing Ryan did for one of his albums. There area couple of other songs he does along with it floating around youtube-- Don't Ask For The Water, To Be The One, and Damn Sam, I think. Just search for them and i'll bet they come up.
this is the version.
man you don’t know how many times i’ve found myself back here. I was here from start 18 years ago, my man. thanks for the ride. hope you good
Me too ❤
What harmonica does he use??? Looks Like a hohner. But What model??
18 years! Cheers mate!
Positively useless render
❤
Where is the rest of this set, if you please. Was this just a one-off or was he in some flow-state or something? This is beyond the next level.
This is not a satisfactory render

The best
Anyone know which gig or performance this was?

he "emotionally abuses" me with this song.

Makes me proud to be from NC!
I'm gonna say it, it's contentious but I'm gonna say it. Ryan Adams' is the best American song writer since Bob Dylan.

mojojojo787 listen to Townes, for the love of all that is good and awesome about music, listen to Townes.
After 56 years of listening for me the order is: Townes, Dylan, Prine, Clark, and Adams. Ryan Adams is a true genus and extremely underrated.
Does that mean he passed up James Taylor along the way?
Carolina I used to dream of Carolina Till I moved to Tennessee... Made all my moves when I was younger Now I am sitting on the porch By a road that calls to me Listening to the thunder Of a fast approaching storm Letting memories drag me under While the bottle keeps me warm... M. S. Morrison
that's beautiful
That's an awesome poem

Love some Adams but I hate his face and want to punch it, whats up with that?
My sweet Carolina what compels me to go ? I understand, living in Thailand from North Carolina...
Holy Heck! Was this like the first video on TH-cam!? 2005?
I went on to Cleveland, but I ended up insane.....Great line.
Way more like Jeremy Fisher.
Reminds me of Mickey Newbury both in lyric and melody.
Can anybody say Neil Young?
