Do you ever wish your dreams were recorded? I do! Many times my dreams are like crazy action movies. I had a wild dream the other night and I thought it would be a fun exercise to try and storyboard part of it! may be a wee bit graphic - but nothing terrible :D

This was just made for fun, and a school project back in 05. It was also something for us to experiment with editing to the music.
For those who wonder what program this is, it's Maya. But Toby, did you make/use controls for the characters or did you just use a armature? :)
Yeah, everything was created in Maya. And I created all the rigs except for the mini fig. That was already made before I arrived at the studio. Each new character/ creature required me to setup the bones, skin weights and breathe life into it. Loved having that constraint. Loved working on it. Thanks for the comments everyone.

I was just watching this again, and I'm truly amazed at how well animated these are. The decals are good, and the missions are neat, but the characters just wouldn't be able to come alive without the animation. My favorites are the Crocodile attack, 2BY3, and the whip.
@cochran485 Well, get some of your buddies from the animation team and head on over to Animal Logic and say you want to work on the LEGO movie!
@KTKomedy2813 that would be freaking awesome to work on.
Hey, Tony, you and sever of the other animators on LEGO Universe should work at Animal Logic on the upcoming LEGO movie.
@TheLegoUniverseWhite I was an animator on the game so I made this in the studio.
@VezonWireless Ya I loved working on the croc death animations! They were to violent and pulled from the game unfortunately. Thanks for watchin!
@jamessterV2 Thanks! the animations around :30 mark were "classic" minifig movement sets - so there was a wave, excited, bow, scared, deny, and dance. Idea was to make the movements feel like a real minifig. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Overall, I'd say that I was quite intrigued by this video and its contents. The unused animations were all very interesting, such as the crocodile-attack-death-animation and the various animations of LUP NPCs (as well as unused LUP NPCs such as the Tank Bot, Bunny, Mallard, Maelstrom Rabbit, and Beaver). I was especially amused by the Stromling and Grabble dances. Thanks for sharing.

Saw this on Vimeo, great to see it on TH-cam now. :D The quality of animation in LU has always been one of my favorite things about the game - minifigures and LEGO characters in general are quite stiff and ridged in real life, but in LU they're very lifelike and fluid (except for 0:30, but I'm pretty sure that was intentional :P ). The animations can be pretty funny, too (I'm not sure what 1:15 was made for, but it certainly made me laugh). Great work.
Nice! About time it was released ;) @ prototron - you sure can! just give credit at the end! @snivyness - it was one of the hardest animations I had to create for the game, lots of constraints and cheating :)
