    I am very happy to see this video, that you have worked through some of the creativity and direction of Your art. Keeping the items that sell and most importantly making the pieces that you can get excited about, keeping the art alive. Having some of the materials disappear you like working with will force seeking new ones that may expand your pottery. Every new experience changes the direction even if unpredictable at first. Started out teaching preschoolers and must love teaching children and now teaching children pottery, how much better can it get. One change that you probably didn’t see the direction it would take. Thank you for the update and I know you will work everything out.

    If one buys cone 6 bisque and glaze it you have NO control over how it has been bisque fired. I never had trouble with it until I did. Do you recommend refiring bisque to make sure it's had a chance to fire out impurities? I've gotten pin holes around the rim like you did! I like using holds and have had some good results. I've ruined some kiln shelves and boy that is expensive but I got smart and bought some flower pot bottoms at Loews. So far so good.

    • @storiesnstoneware
      @storiesnstoneware หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh the flower pot bottom is something I never thought about! Just make sure if you see any bloating or melting to stop using them( means they are getting over fired). Do you know what kind of clay the bisque fired pieces are?

      The company I bought my luster from no longer sells it. I think Laguna Clay company has started to, but it is a lot more expensive. Also you would need to have access to a kiln to fire it onto the pottery, it gets fired at a cone 018 temperature.

    So appreciate your sharing and vulnerability. Of course as life changes, things come and things go. Proud of you sharing your faith and struggles. Praying God guides you and we know he will. What's that old saying, when one door closes, he opens a window. Keep looking up. As long as your gaining continued happiness from it. You know the sad old adage of the starving artists. If your dependent on this for your livelihood and things aren't going well you may want to consider a change, but if it's more for personal enjoyment. Just let it come to you. Sometimes the struggles are good, stretching us, possibly taking us in new directions 👍🙏🤔 Thanks again for sharing🙏❤️👍👍

    It’s good to share and be open when things are transitional, especially as a lot of artists just show the ‘pretty aesthetic’. I don’t know if you’ve read The Artist’s Way, but since doing daily morning pages, I’ve become so much more inspired and motivated by my hectic creative brain, and sitting with my thoughts and ideas and scribbling can really help bring those ideas through. Crazing is still one I’m trying to work through and avoid myself. I’ve mostly only succeeded by switching clays. Or I use liner glazes on the inside that I know are stable and food safe and use the glazes that tend to craze on the outside. Is it an artistic choice that your glaze is always so thick ? I tend to see this problem with a lot of "young" potters, but you're experienced, so I was wondering.

    • @storiesnstoneware
      @storiesnstoneware 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the question. Sometimes it is how the glaze works, with the crystal glaze with the chunks, it needs to go on thicker for the crystals to stay adhered to the pottery and melt on the piece and not on my shelf lol. When doing glaze combos it is just going to be thicker because it has more layers( the green blue one) and with the mermaid mug, it is done on purpose to make the sculptures smooth to the touch because my pottery is created to be used frequently and I don’t want it to be uncomfortable to hold.

    For the difficulties removing the wheelhead, try brushing a little anti-seize grease or "waterproof" bicycle grease or oil on the mounting point for the head. Anti-seize will last a long time between applications, and so will, say, Paul's Waterproof bicycle grease, NFS (Need For Speed) bicycle chain lubricant, and Silca Synergetic and Synerg-e chain lubes. All are made for high tenacity and water resistance, and will prevent corrosion if you clean off any that's already occurred before you apply them. Personally, I'd use anti-seize because it's cheap, available at every hardware store and auto shop, lasts seemingly forever, and is super effective. It won't make it slippery between the metal surfaces, though, so it won't facilitate easier removal like the others. If Skutt advises against the use of lubricants, you might check with them regarding anti-seize. It's formulated specifically not to affect manufacturing tolerances and applied torques.

    I would like to ask, if Raku burning process happens when the clay is dry after a week or wet?

    • @storiesnstoneware
      @storiesnstoneware 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did mean burnishing process with the terra sig? You can do that in the leather hard stage as well but I did it after bisque because the mica added to it can burn off in the bisque fire, depending what temperature you bisque to. If you mean burning the horse hair on to it, that happens after the first kiln fire (bisque) and the terra sig is added, burnished and dries for a few days. Then I put it in the raku kiln.

    To help the wheel head from getting hard to take off Skutt says to use a little grease. I flip the head over and put grease where the pins go and the shaft area. Haven’t had any problems and the wheel is over two years old. Thank you for the review.

    Thank you for shown use and the inspiration, have not seen this technique before and looks like lots of possibilities using it. Appreciate the research. Very talented.

      Yep. It is a type of Raku called horsehair Raku and I added mica to the pottery too. There are other types of Raku that I would love to try too!
