I'm nearly 50 years old, and my first home video game memory is the Atari 2600 my dad bought for the family just before the North American video game crash. Luckily, I was born in the UK, so the effects of that weren't felt, and the knowledge of it came years later. The next videogame related product my dad bought was a Commodore 64, in 1983 {I think}, and games for the system were constant. Hell, this was a time when Activision was still deemed trustworthy. I received a copy of Ghostbusters for the Commodore 64 on Christmas Day 1984, and to this day, I still load that game up a few times a year, via emulation, not only because it's such a good game for the time, but the nostalgia it provides of a far simpler time. I hate the scummy stuff Sony is doing now with their consoles. They're also desperate to go digital only so they can rip us off even more. We need to fight to keep the disc drive to let games be much cheaper and for game preservation.

Console games when they are going to get redesigned it is always very weird i remember when i was using my nintendo and it got redesigned into a smiley face and it was always weird but it did sometimes make me go into a very happy feeling so i am not entirely sure if this is a good or a bad thing but the new design was so weird because it had a very new style then before and when my friend allen came over he was really mad that it had turned into a smile so he started hitting me a lot and i screamed and cried and the nintendo stopped him with the smile powers but my neck was still hurting from when he choked me so this is why i am going to go the doctors office to see if they can fix me and i am also going to try and find a new nintendo so that way when this all happens i will be ready and i am going to get a new neck for all of the times that allen hurt me and i also need a new hair because he knocked my hair off and there is only one thing that could have happened and the smiley face nintendo was responsible and the doctors and i are going to the doctors so that way i can get ready for the nintendo because i think that this could happen again and the smiley face nintendo had so much fun and she was going to go back to being my nintendo when the gameboy was coming and i think that maybe this would happen again but i think that the doctor might be able to fix me and make me forget about this whole thing and i am going to be very excited for the new nintendo consoles in the future and they love making games so i am very excited and i hope you all have a good day and stay safe with my friend allen he is mean bully

In interview footage on the Atari 50 collection, they acknowledge that the 5200 had inherent problems, chief of which being the controller and lack of backwards compatibility. Apparently, the engineers behind the console had plans to rework the system and add compatibility with Atari 2600 games, which they say they could have easily done, but the marketing executives shot the idea down, saying that the two systems should be completely separate, so that people would theoretically feel obligated to upgrade to the 5200. The engineers were truly forward-thinking, but people who essentially knew nothing about video games were just looking to get the console out as-is to chase the competition. And everyone suffered as a result.
