The HSE Academic Writing Center (AWC) is a collaborative space where university faculty and researchers can get language support at any time.
History
The HSE Academic Writing Center was founded in 2011 to meet the growing needs of the faculty for participating in the global academic community and improving the international visibility of the research and educational services provided by the HSE. The Center has become a place for diverse collaboration and communication, as well as a resource for academic self-development.
Mission
We strive to empower the HSE faculty and assist them in developing their academic literacy. We organize courses and workshops on research writing in English and create a dialogic space at individual consultations. We are committed to creating a friendly environment for communicating in English, providing professional advice on draft papers of different genres, thus cultivating academics’ career growth.

Emotional intelligence in academia
The workshop will focus on the concepts of emotional intelligence and empathy to clarify what they really mean and how empathy contributes to successful presentation of your research. We will discuss how to make your texts credible and efficient and how to provide and receive non-evaluative feedback.
The speaker will:
• present cases of efficient interaction with colleagues and partners in research and education
• specify and emphasize some aspects of academic writing and style related to empathy and emotional intelligence to explain some of their “rules and norms”
• suggest techniques of non-evaluative feedback and provide an opportunity to train them.
