Raymarine C80 Broken NMEA Pin Repair
This machine is only kept as a spare onboard and is not my primary form of navigation. I have an E120 as my main plotter, an Ipad with Navionics and paper charts. Please be sensible with your safety on the water!
It has a broken NMEA0183 pin and I would like to try and repair it just to see if its possible

This is the type of outboard that's not a fixer upper. Yes it runs, but it's worth next to nothing in A1 condition, the powerhead is knackered, fuel cap broken and to top it all off the hood is awful. Clean hoods make outboards good xD

Was it necessary to remove a matherboard? It seams the new screen could be connected to it without removing the board.

The capacitor from which you take the power supply to the led strip has a not regulated voltage, since it is connected to the input battery voltage. This means that the brightness of the screen is influenced by the power supply. Furthermore you have to choose 12v or 24v led strips, depending on the power supply... Isn't it? Thanks for video

I followed the conversion exactly and it didnt work. Could i have mistakingly assumed my back light burnd out? When i shined a flashlight on the screen after the back light went out the chart plotter was still working accurately if that makes sense.

Just completed this conversion as the backlight broke on my E120. I suspect it was one of the ballasts rather than the tube, but decided to press on with this anyway. Follow this tutorial to the letter and it works just fine - thanks to @Crusader, great tutorial. Some key points for me: I used the IRLB8721 and 100 Ohm resistor. I also used a MOSFET heatsink super glued to the board - just my preference. The backlight dimmer still works and I don't get any interfence (vertical line etc). I had a few problems with the wiring trying to lift the corners of the led strips and super glued some of them in place. I think next time I will use some cable that is a lot more flexible and pliable than the one I used. Also watch out for the tiny black screws around the bezel - do not over tighten! Whole project cost me 30 GBP, all bought from Amazon. Took me 2 hours.
