I appreciate all the prayers that were shown on this video, but how dare they not mention Doug Plank and the fear he placed in the other teams mind, he was one of the hardest hitting Safety's in NFL HISTORY PERIOD, and help set the bar for those that followed,.. please give the man some respect!!!

Singletary was the epitome of a “TEAM” player. He could’ve been a so so linebacker and still have been great for leading the team. He was custom made for the 46 defense

  • @Boomhower89

McMichael is over rated. Hampton was an animal and a leader. Dent was all pro, period. He reminded me of Harvey Martin. The best defensive end in the mid 70 s to early 80s.. he benefitted from playing next to Randy White. Likewise Dent played next to Hampton and McMichael. Buddy Ryan always had the best players on his d lines. The Jets in the 60s the Vikings in the 70s the bears in the 80s and the eagles in the late 80s

Despite what this video mostly discusses and concludes, I'd like to suggest, at least from the 1950s through the 1970s (Gary Fencik possibly excepted), the finest Bears defensive back was safety Roosevelt Taylor (1961-1969). He was very small, but a tremendous tackler. Any small-sized safety probably can find no better player, all time, to model his game after, than Roosevelt Taylor (no 24). Hate to bring up my other favorite team, besides the Bears, from and NFL history perspective, in commenting on a Bears history video (the Minnesota Vikings), but talking about Butkus, one thing I like about him is that he once said the only two truly tough running backs in the league were the Vikings' Bill Brown and Dave Osborn. From a purist standpoint, and watching the little things, and their skill at their fullback and halfback positions (Brown running like he was the Vikings' version of Jim Taylor, and Osborn with incredible second-effort and amazing control over his body in all phases of the game, including blocking in pass protection), as well as their toughness, I'd like to suggest Bill Brown and Dave Osborn are as worthy of Hall of Fame induction as is Chuck Foreman; two bad none of those three Vikings have made it into the HOF.

0:03 IMO # 21 Leslie Frazier was the best Bears cover corner since I started watching in the mid 70s. His career-ending injury occurred 2nd quarter of Super Bowl XX, Bears up 20-3, Pats without a 1st down. Many in the media said the Bears postgame locker room was surprisingly reserved, almost somber. Maybe that's because players were receiving confirmation that Frazier's injury was as bad as it looked, and his playing career was basically over (sports medicine wasn't very advanced back then.)

The Bears are 12-1 lifetime against the Steelers in Chicago and 5-1 at Soldier Field. Even when the Steelers would come in with good playoff teams and the Bears not so good, the Bears would still beat them here.
