Teton Crest Trail Thru-Hike: Backpacking Beautiful Wyoming Mountains
Chaunce and I take on the Teton Crest Trail in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming! We had some hiccups getting there, but the hike was absolutely amazing. I think the Teton Crest Trail is one of the BEST short thru-hikes you can do. I got permits in January (so if you have this on the list, mark your calendars) and we hiked in late July! The Tetons are absolutely gorgeous, route finding was easy and straightforward, the hiking was chill, and the wild life was awesome. We dealt with some bugs and one sketchy snow traverse (watch to see what happens)!
If you have any questions about backpacking the Teton Crest Trail, drop 'em below!

100 Beautiful and Brutal miles: Backpacking the Wind River High Route
มุมมอง 6K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Wind River High Route is a thru-hike that’s been on my list since I first heard of its existence in 2020. There are two common versions - Alan Dixon’s and Andrew Skurka’s. This Wind River High Route recap almost exclusively follows the Andrew Skurka version. It’s 97 miles from Trail Lakes Trailhead to Bruce’s Bridge - 65 of those miles are off trail. There is 30,000 feet of elevation gain w...

Colorado's Best Fly Fishing: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

This is our second time at this world-class fly fishing destination, but you don't get to fish without putting in a lot of effort to descend into t...

    Late June to early July is perfect for CDT SOBO. Pinedale, between Dubois and Lander is an incredibly easy hitch, since it ends at a trailhead.

    Very nice job on completing one of the toughest, if not the toughest, route in the Winds. And you still held it together enough to do a nice video while doing it! Very nice. I've been all over the Winds, sectioned Dixon's route. You went places I've not, hard as nails places, and did well. I still giggle at my name for the Alpine Lakes section "The Valley of the Shadow of Death". The day long endless rock hopping is brutal. Loved your CDT videos too, took me back. you're a God!

    Awesome video. I watched your WRHR video a dozen times prior to soloing it last fall, it was very helpful. You're a beast! The WRHR totally crushed me and when I go back and watch it you and your partner seem not-so-phased by the physicality of that hike. I just printed out the Skurka guide to the Pfiffner and will be firing that up fall 2025, but this time I know better than to think about how easy you make it look. Great videos, way to get after it. Following.

    As far as stubbornness and thoughts on quitting. I always think to myself all the events ahead and people I will never meet ahead on the trail if I were to quit a thruhike. Also I consider the time, money and effort that I have put in and quitting would be a waste of all that progress. I'm stubborn as they come and have successful thruhiked the Colorado, Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails in the last 4 years. The CDT is next! I WILL be a Triple Crowner!!! 💪

    Unpopular but brutally honest opinion after 5500 trail miles in the last 4 years, when in grizzly country, use an Ursack. Any other time on a thruhike, SLEEP WITH YOUR FOOD! Black bears wouldn't mess with your tent when they smell you inside. They are looking for easy unguarded food.

    I've thruhiked the Colorado Trail, Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail all in the last 4 years. My first BSR3000t stove died this year on the PCT after 4500 miles. The threads on the stove wore out and wouldn't thread on a can. Bought another from Amazon and my new one is working great. All your other items to never carry, I agree with. I love my Lightheart Gear Rain Jacket! Truly waterproof and durable. Huge pit zips.

    Excellent video and accomplishment! I've made 4 trips to The Winds before, have climbed Pingora, but have always wanted to do one of the High Routes. I may have aged-out by now, with trashed knees, but still hope to sample portions of it. I really like your approach to audio, with mostly scripted voice-over, rather than 'talk and walk' commentary. Much easier to listen to, more informative and gives a better feel for what you were feeling at the time, and why.

    I follow a lot of PCT hikers every year. A few good ones do almost daily vlogs. I don't see that with CDT. My impression of the CDT is 3000 miles of Desolation. I'm guessing town stops may be once/twice a month. Probably zero trail magic, and random hitches or even car pass by is rare. So, is it more scenic than PCT? I also get a sense of claustrophobia like the trail is a continuous trench with east and west on either side. It doesn't seem enjoyable unless you hike 16 hrs a day and eat cold soaked oatmeal every day. Tell me I'm wrong.

    • @eliseott
      @eliseott 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@trexinvert wrong in some ways right in others! I think daily vlog editing is really hard to do on any trail because of the time commitment and I’m picky about how I edit things together - much prefer doing it on a computer rather than a phone. I think there are just a lot less hikers on the CDT and that’s why you don’t see as many vlogs (also not as many people know about it so the algorithm doesn’t push it out as much maybe). CDT is definitely a lot less populated and way more “out there” than the PCT. Towns are farther apart but you can definitely still stop at least once a week (much more if you want in certain sections like central Colorado). You are correct about there being very little trail magic. Hitches were mostly fine except a few spots! Some sections (like lots of New Mexico) are not as scenic as the PCT. The rest is awesome and very scenic. I’d say the trail is more of a continuous ridge (riding the spine of the divide) than a trench). It’s certainly much more difficult hiking than the PCT and requires some long days. I have a video series of my hike If you are interested in seeing more of what the day to day is like!
