"...Then You Wake Up": GoT's Carice van Houten Reacts to Metallica's NIGHTMARISH "Blackened"
มุมมอง 3.1Kปีที่แล้ว
Inspired by the climate activism she's been doing of late, Carice suggested we discuss lyrics about "the end of the world." So naturally Daniel had to bring in this apocalyptic masterpiece of an album opener from Metallica's 1989 "...And Justice For All" album. This is a clip from our most recent podcast episode, which also includes songs by Ed Harcourt, Donald Fagen, and the Dutch '80s NederPo...

"Awake To The Ways Of The World": DEEP LYRICAL ANALYSIS of Wu-Tang Clan's 'C.R.E.A.M.'!
มุมมอง 995ปีที่แล้ว
Little-known fact: Carice van Houten ("Game of Thrones") once recorded a voiceover monologue (at RZA's invitation!) for Wu-Tang Clan's "Once Upon A Time In Shaolin", the infamous record that had only one copy made and then got auctioned off to a corrupt pharma bro. And yet she'd never heard their classic track "C.R.E.A.M." until her podcast co-host Daniel played it for her. The pair break down ...
De La Soul x Otis x Steely Dan: Carice & Daniel REACT to "Eye Know" (RIP DAVE/TRUGOY/PLUG TWO)
มุมมอง 229ปีที่แล้ว
De La Soul's beloved rapper Dave Jolicoeur (a.k.a. Trugoy The Dove, Plug Two) recently passed away. For our Valentine's Day episode we took a look at one of the most charming love songs ever, De La's 1989 single "Eye Know", which samples Otis Redding, Steely Dan (!), Sly & The Family Stone, and others. Dave's two verses in particular are warm and lovable in the way that made him such a unique p...
WHY DO STEELY DAN "FEEL LIKE PAINTING AGAIN?" C & D React to the Deliciously CREEPY "Janie Runaway"
มุมมอง 456ปีที่แล้ว
Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and Walter Becker) are the kings of midlife crisis self-parody songs. Maybe their skeeviest, and smoothest, is "Janie Runaway", a jazz-rock gem about an older guy getting his mojo back via a tryst with teenage runaway. Creepy? Yes. Funny? Also yes. Join Carice and Daniel for an in-depth look at these deceptively dark lyrics, in this clip from Episode 5 of the podcast: "...
"Never See Will Attacking 'Em??" Carice & Daniel REACT to Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' It"
มุมมอง 501ปีที่แล้ว
For our "guilty pleasures" episode, Carice brought in a very dumb, very fun song that she loves to vacuum to. And Daniel breaks down why Will's style on this song is a direct homage to Biggie's flow on Mo' Money Mo' Problems. • From the "Guilty Pleasures Cut Both Ways" episode of the new podcast LET'S GET LYRICAL WITH CARICE AND DANIEL. I Really Shouldn't Love Slayer's "Angel Of Death"... BUT I DO
มุมมอง 73K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Daniel's Hungarian Jewish great-grandparents were murdered at the Auschwitz death camp under the orders of the deranged Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. His father and grandparents barely survived World War II. AND, he absolutely loves Slayer's gruesome portrayal of Mengele, the classic album opener "Angel Of Death" off their 1986 classic, "Reign In Blood". • From the "Guilty Pleasures Cut Both Ways"...
"GRANDMA TAKE ME HOME!!": Kurt Cobain's LITERALLY Gut-Churning "Sliver" Lyrics (w/ Dr. Gabor Maté)
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Kurt Cobain's scream-sung lyrics came from a place of deep pain, both physical and emotional. Here Gabor Maté breaks down how those two levels of experience can't be separated, and how sensitive children are often the canaries in the coal mines of their families' stresses. This clip is from the extended version of Episode 4: Trauma, Illness and Healing Songs with guest Dr. Gabor Maté. Our $5/mo...

OFFICIAL TRAILER! Daniel Maté and Carice van Houten announce their NEW podcast
This is probably the best reaction video I've ever watched.
Well, the song would be much more powerful if he attacked religion directly .BTW, Bob's great Greenwich Village rival Phil Ochs had no trouble attacking religion.
I'm so pleased that you interpreted it this way. I love this song, too, and have always found it a way to channel the lizard brain thoughts into something productive.
Its about how evil people can be !
Rhymes Galore by Busta Rhymes is an absolute lyrical massacre
People dont like to understand history, just like people dont want to know where your meat or chicken or ham comes from . It doesnt hold back its raw its real people run from reality cant face truth
This song is so eye opening that noone like talking about their not in favor by any means they write eye opening and gruesome lyrics
The song is supposed to be the POV of a Jewish POW. Germany was lead by PURE EVIL!
The Best in history Mr Tupac Shakur
All the other comments are correct. This is by no means a glorifying of Dr Mengele. It is a point of fact just how horrific he was. It also tells just how much anguish his victims were put through.
It never happened
It's like saying that an author of an biography book about a serial killer was glorifying what they did.
jeff absolutely mastered writing lyrics from the pov of evil, the way he describes these acts is insanely insane, "inferior, no use to mankind" it just puts you in the mindset so well, i love it so much man, how angry tom sounds too, crazy vocalist
Jeff Hennamen, who wrote the lyrics, was the son of a world war 2 vet. As a result, he learned as much as he could about the about it. The song is not praising what happened, but telling a younger generation that the Holocaust was real. On another album, there is a song about what some of what the Japanese did to our POWs.
Nice!
We must be aware that the monarch of the kingdom of the dead sleeps deep inside ourselves and could be awaken some day. Knowing about the evils one can achieve helps avoiding them and staying away from it.
you skipped the third verse, Rappin 4 Tay
Agree, my second favorite is Dead skin Mask. Metal songs are 90% history lessons if you pay attention
You jew you liked it
she wasn't militant , white folks called everything black folks have and does as criminal enterprise, like we don't have the right to protect ourselves and our babies under GOD, name 10 WP that was killed by the B panters in comparison to the KKK ? see what i mean.
Be careful, this one song hooked me for life and I’m 47.
There’s a few videos of the stage performance hidden on here, the visuals make this so much funnier.
Ultra 51 is still being used.... LSD is still a government exercise. 100 doses, and I'm still sane.
This girl has have no idea about where this song comes from, having been through nothing
I think if you want to get with Clarice... Start with Terrapin Station & work your way up.
Is this not the actor of The Red Woman from GoT?
I knew this lady looked familiar!!!
Fun fact: The music/beat is a slowed down mixed version of Mary J. Blige's 'Real Love.' 🖖🏾✊🏾🙌🏽
As a Mexican growing up in Houston we understand every word he said
Watching from Dublin 2pac is a genius
I truly feel they should play this song along with visuals of what he's talking about as part of the history lesson about Auschwitz and the Third Reich in high schools and/or college , he's taking you into the mind of a madman who did this to so many innocent people , some people learn better through visualization rather than just text , I don't think any other band has covered this topic to my knowledge.
MILLION LAID OUT IN THEIR, CROWDED TOMBS!!
Yes but it’s not about glorifying his achievements - it’s just about the horror of it
its simple .....is art .
Melisandre ?
You can go to dc and walk threw a museum full of sadistic images of what germany did to the Jewish community,Slayer has wrote about all kinds of dark stuff that the human race has done. Slayer has songs about the war of heaven being so brutal that blood rains down, the horror of the aftermath of nuclear war ( skeletons of society) they sing about people who brutality murdered (dead skin mask) the decay of society (repentless). We can have walk threw buildings dedicated to this horror but are offended by a band who points out multiple times how horrific this is ( SADISTIC BUTCHER) was.
jeff hennemans father was a soldier in WW2 and fight for freedom
its a protest song
its a protest song
the best trash song of the world❤
Poetically Tupac has a way of cutting to the point so powerfully, along with that crisp enunciation and flow. He was the best rapper who ever lived, and he was in his mid 20s so he was only getting started,...that's what sucks most.
You welcome to the barbecue.
Late to the conversation. Love the discussion here, though. I truly think that we are so used to art as propaganda, that it’s difficult for people appreciate art that reflects the reality of our own disturbed natures. The fact that people were more vocal about their displeasure with slayer for singing about this topic than they were about the events that inspired this song this speaks volumes.
Judgemental shits . Aren't you ?
This will never happen again in music...this record is 100% perfect from beginning to end \m/
You guys should review Dear Mama by Tupac if you haven't.
His Mom Afeni Shakur died in 2016
I really did not expect to find Daniel or Carice on a music reaction video, even less so loving Tupac! Made my evening :)
Oh and btw, Afeni died years ago, unfortunately. Assata is still hiding in Cuba.
I’d say Dave’s drumming is prodigious
interesting....
