This is without doubt one of the greatest singles of all time. It was written and sung by a guy called David Maready who worked in a book shop in NYC in the 1980s which I often frequented. We chatted a good deal. He and his friends went by the name Nothing But Happiness. Some of his friends went to London, lived in a squat, nearly got signed by Creation Records (but didn't), then landed a record deal with 4AD which became the band Ultra Vivid Scene which is very available today (and very good, like almost anything else on that label during that decade). David, however, stayed back in New York and I am not aware of any other music he recorded. He discussed plans he had, but nothing solid, so I am assuming he did nothing else musically. I remember this single fondly, praised him many times for it, but I don't believe to my knowledge he ever did anything again, let along anything as significant again. Even when I sold all my vinyl, I still kept this single. I don't own ANY vinyl anymore but I am happy I can continue to hear this great song now and then on TH-cam! Thanks David. You are an example of a complete unknown who can surprise when intense inspiration takes hold. That is very inspiring in itself.
