Hey, great video! I have a screen accurate costume but when I applied several months ago I never got a response. Any tips on how to properly apply?
That would be frustrating. And of course could come down to many things, including the technology getting in the way (ie. Issues with the email address) I'd recommend following up with the corresponding Garrison via a different communication channel. Perhaps social media via a DM. Ask if they received your application and letting them know where you sent it and when. Hopefully you'll they'll be able to confirm if they received it, the status or what went wrong.
This is a great video for anyone looking to build their costume and apply for the 501st. Love the shirt also!
Thanks for the feedback and yes, I love to support the Sons of Obiwan. Luke and the crew do amazing work.
Not the same suspension and tires set up
Siiick !!
Question. Good tutorial. So I have successfully resized the width of my thigh pieces. The only thing is I need to take an inch off height wise because I’m 5’6” and I can’t even walk because the thigh pieces are too long and interfere with the knee pieces, and the crotch piece. I want to remove an inch off the top all the way around each thigh piece. But before doing so I have no idea how to re-roll the edges. I seriously match the famous quote of aren’t you too short for a storm trooper. And you’d be surprised that there’s not a single storm trooper outfit available for someone who is actually 5’6”. They’re all made for someone who is 5’9” to 6’2” or whatever.
There's an interesting thread on the FISD forums that you might want to check out: www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26496-short-trooper-trim-thighs/ Are you looking to get 501st Legion approval? If so I'd also reach out to your local Garrison's GML to start a dialogue with them before you commit to any action. Without seeing the full kit it might also be worth confirming if your shin pieces are too large - as this may impact the length of your thighs. I'd also consider tracing the top edge of your thighs, bringing the edge down a little bit at a time. You should be able to use a compass to do this. When you say "re-roll the edges" do you mean creating a return edge? If so, you don't need one for the top of the thighs - in fact, it'll be more comfortable too. But if you want a return edge, the link above has a tutorial on creating one.
Hamill is only 5`7 although he does seem to have longer legs compared to his torso than most men of his height. Still, I wonder if they made a custom suit for him. Ford did seem a little large for his. I read somewhere that the originals were made for people who were 5`10 and 165 lbs. I hope to buy one eventually, but I have same issue as you. I am 5`6 and a half but have short legs compared to my torso.
Talk about the paper its crazy how I bet that not great actull paper you would use to draw plans on I bet it's plasticky why work so hard on the box and skimp On paper
While it's definitely not planning paper, it's very sturdy paper stock. At least for my cosplay purposes it will never be seen, so I'm not too concerned. And the designs are certainly not engineering-level schematics any way.
Incredible video, very informative 👏 I love the weathering too 😍 Just subbed 🤘
Awesome, thank you!
I recently got my first 3D printer (Elegoo Neptune 3 Plus) after following Galactic Armory for years. I plan to print his clone helmets, and this video answered some questions I had about his online store. Some file descriptions and images are outdated, and details like pre-cut pieces for small printers aren’t always clear. I haven't bought any files yet but will soon. Thanks for the helpful video!
@@Power6563 happy that it helped!
i was thinking of printing this...but using silver filament for weathering purposes...any thoughts?
Depends on how you intend to cleanup the 3d print, using a silver filament might work. The finishing technique I've applied (UV resin) would dull any silver filament though, so doing the silver paint gives great results. How did you go? Did this work for you?
Is Anovos the same thing as Denuo Novo? When I try to look up Anovos I end up getting directed to Denuo Novo's website.
This is so cool. I wanted to find out what happened to the hiluxe(s). I think there were two, correct me if I am wrong. Glad to see it's still around. Back home the movie got a mixed reception from what I have encountered. But ut gained more popularity after the fact. I would have loved to find out more how he was able to obtain such an icon (for us locals that saw it).
@@madcat4563 I'll chat to Dean and find out. This is his own scratch-built but extremely accurate replica. He talks about it some more on one of my other videos if you're interested, from about 32:12 th-cam.com/video/dtaw2HOIR-o/w-d-xo.html
Both of the original Hiluxes still exist and are stored in a secret, secure location. One is pretty much a crushed write off after the ‘roll flip’ stunt. The other one is mostly intact, but in a state of decay. My replica was built based on the originals, using a variety of sources and points of reference, including members the original build team at Weta Workshop. The biggest compliment I got was being told mine is better built than the originals 😂
X. C. X ccfffrre😁🌸😊😊😊
This is cool and weird at the same time the algorithm was like: you like Hiluxes and District 9 check this out
Very cool indeed, thats a vehicle from a movie that's not so well known but it's also a welcome breath of fresh air to see something different! He mentioned driving it so I'm assuming it's registered with those window grills OK?
It's not road legal. He had it brought up on a trailer for the show. But I agree, it's great to see a vehicle from more of a niche film.
Very good! Congratulations on your first event! 😊😊😊

Had the same problem with my very fragile darts on my Mando costume, just went to metal darts (sort of cheating I know) love this channel keep it up.
Thanks for the encouragement How did you manufacture your Mando darts? Made on a lathe or another process? Do they add much weight to your costume?
Did you end up printing the stormtrooper helmet in the original size or did you scale it up/down. How is the fit?
I printed out the template first. It is a cross section cutout that comes with the model that allows you to do a test fit of the narrowest part of the helmet. It is a very quick print too. Fortunately it fit me perfectly, so I didn't need to scale the helmet at all.
Thanks for the info
I like to use foam paint brushes to apply resin. Helps with smoothing it out
I might give them another go. When I first started I used foam brushes but found they started leaving debris in the resin
nice - and this was outside Sydney 2024 th-cam.com/video/lRQwKVF9ohI/w-d-xo.html

Getting ready to start this mod! Thanks for making this! Doing it on my full-size spirit
Good luck and have fun!
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hello 501st fella and soon GB too, just wondering the product u are using in minute 8:00. Thank you very much!
I'm using eSun brand eResin-PLA (Bio-Photopolymer Resin) Costs about $30AUD and I get it from JayCar electronics here in Australia. It's just resin you'd use for a resin printer - so any 3D printer supplier should stock either this brand or something similar.
@@downunderstormtrooper Nice, but.... are you adding baby powder as well? What is the purpose, and the ratio u use. I am using cyanoacrylate glue and lots of sanding to fulfill big gaps, or painting with thick primer for quite flat surfaces, and then lots of sanding. All the best
Oh yes! I'm adding baby powder. It helps thicken the resin and makes it much simpler to work with. About 1/3 of my cup is resin. But it's easier to add it little by little - until the resin is a thick syrup-like consistency. Make sure you mix it well too to avoid lumps of powder
Awesome. Check out Escape from Endor. A film we did here a while back. Also Trooper 98311. Im in those.
Awesome. Will take a look!
Just watched it, that was great. Must have been a real struggle for the TKs in that terrain. Hopefully you filmed it in winter!
Great news! When is this coming out?
Word just in. Trailer should be released later this afternoon - there's been a slight delay
21:58 : so from what I see, since I don't want to modify the wiring, or the connectors, I can just remove the rubber sleeve cover and leave the hose as is?
Yes, it's a separate molded piece
@@downunderstormtrooper I did the mod. way better like this!
Just found your channel. Excellent video. I listened with headphones. Plus the captions kept up with everything you said in case I missed something. Keep up the amazing work. Hope you're doing well.
Thanks for watching and the words of encouragement!
Hey quick question, what orientation did you print the main bumper arms? Still relatively new to 3D printing so I'm figuring out the best ways to orient big pieces like this to get a good print in a reasonable time that won't require an additional 10 hours of sanding!
If you freeze my video at the 45 second mark you can see the final orientation in the time lapse. I essentially placed the bottom edge of the arms on the bed. I figured that would be the least seen edge if there were any issues, but TBH it came up great. My snaps came apart easily and didn't leave too much mess.
Weathering looks great! how did you tone down the plastic looking part? just sanding?
In regards to the tri-bumper, I think the most substantial part of the process that made a difference to making it less plastic was the UV resin. To the touch it felt very different once that was applied. More solid and heavy-duty. But yes, those several passes of sanding and weathering helped with this too.
whats the thought process with keeping your pack to the afterlife theme but changing the wand grips?
One of the things I love about the GB community versus some other cosplay groups, is the level of customisation and freedom you can do. If you want a screen accurate pack, you can. If you want a completely custom pack, you can. For me, I'm sitting somewhere in between. I love the gritty look of the Afterlife aesthetic, but the wooden grip has never resonated with me. My personal preference was the old grip. I'm kind of intrigued by the look of the exposed booster on Phoebe's pack from Frozen Empire too. It adds some different texture - so I'm drawn to it. Maybe a future project.
Nice job... be careful cutting that chopstrand without a respirator and eye protection.
Thanks for the tip
@@downunderstormtrooper I see your thumbnail has a respirator, sorry if my Monday morning criticism was unfounded.
All good mate. I put the respirator on before I started mixing the resin, but it would probably have been smart to wear it when cutting the sheets too.
I've been using UV resin to coat my prints and never thought to use baby powder to thicken it up like gravy so it wont leave droops or unnecessary blobs at corners. Thanks for this video! will definite add the powder in my next post-processing
Hi there! Where did you get the connection socket and jack from?
From Amazon AU, but you should be able to get the same in ypur region: amzn.asia/d/baSobm9
What ral of yellow did you use?
The spray paint I used doesn't have a RAL colour reference. It's "Australian Export" enamel paint from Bunnings. Not sure how this pairs to your part of the world. It's not the correct yellow though. It needs more red. If you're an Aussie, apparently Autobarn has a better hazard yellow auto spray called "Hazard Yellow (Holden) DSH208
I don’t have a 3D printer 😔 Anyone wanna help a fellow GB out? Lol 🙏
when looking at the file list which files did you choose for bumper body i saw they had the haslab additions labeled?
Great question. I was a little unsure too. TacoBelli-QPack-HasLab_3rd_Leg_Spacer.stl TacoBelli-QPack-HasLab-Bumper_Track-M6_Screw.stl (you need 2 of these) TacoBelli-QPack-HasLab-Bumper_Spacer.stl Q-pack-TacoShell_MK4.1_TRI_Bumper_THIRD_LEG_L_XL_XXL_ELSA.stl Q-pack-TacoShell_MK4.1_TRI_Bumper_THIRD_LEG_PEG_L_XL_XXL_ELSA.stl Q-pack-TacoShell_MK4.1_TRI_Bumper_THREEPARTS_01_REMOVABLE_L_XL_XXL_ELSA.stl Q-pack-TacoShell_MK4.1_TRI_Bumper_THREEPARTS_02_REMOVABLE_L_XL_XXL_ELSA.stl
Great call by starting with silver paint. I do that with all of my metal painting. I spray with a metallic silver, then I cover it with the correct color and sand away at the color and it creates a realistic weathering. At least more realistic than silver marker. Great work here!
Agreed! Definitely looks more realistic than touching up later. Thanks for watching
Well, lets go on an adventure. subbed.
You know, my dad says you guys are full of crap.
Perfectly. It actually doesn't even like a plastic part anymore. Feels tougher and not a single print line in sight.
Looks great! Question: how well did the uv resin hide the print lines?
Perfectly. There are no print lines anymore. If you see any lines after your initial resin coat is laid, do a quick sand with 180 grit, clean off any dust with isopropyl alcohol and do another coat It doesn't even feel like a 3D print now. It's significantly stronger.
I've seen amazing results for miniatures from resin printers due to the detailed prints they can produce. But definitely, PLA printers work well for helmets, especially if you have a large print bed. My printer is an Anycubic Kobra Plus and has been great so far.
Do you recommend using a PLA printer over a 3d printer? I just got a 3d printer for painting miniatures and the like but also want bad ass helmets.
What printer are u using and file on print ..great work on the helmet 😊
I'm using an Anycubic Kobra Plus. It has a great bed size for printing armour. The file is from Galactic Armory. Check out episode 2 where I walk through the files.
Were is the file from
Sound is bad
Yeah - had issues with the microphone setup. I hope you persevered. Getting my sound setup correct is still a WIP - now have a wireless Rode which seems to be working better
