LX470 Land Cruiser how I regained engine response uphill.
มุมมอง 1.2K5 ปีที่แล้ว
My 01 LX470 always struggled going uphills since I bought in 2017. Spark plugs are like new, no codes. I saw how loose the throttle/accelerator cable was and I tightened it. NO MORE issues going uphills. Very responsive when I get on the gas. Even my wife noticed that it doesn’t struggle going uphill when she goes to work. *try this at your own risk.

    What is the torque specs of inner tie rods, thank you

    • @cameronbates9185
      @cameronbates9185 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tie rods aren't done to torque, they have jam nuts or something to lock in the threads. That's where the alignment shops will work so they need to be adjustable in order to properly align your wheels. If you're doing it yourself, count the threads exposed on the old tie rod and try to get as close as you can when you install the new one. You'll still need to go to the alignment shop, but you can get it driveable to get there

    The outer joint definitely comes apart. You need to clamp the center of the axle in a vice and use a long brass drift to hammer the spider gear down the shaft. It's a pain in the arse but not removing it is a bit half arsed.

    Thank you so much for the video. Although it took me 3 tries to get it right, I would always go back to your video to see what I was doing wrong. I did not have a brass drift to "pound" the internal joint part off but did have a copper mallet which worked great getting it apart and then pounding back together. Then I found that I put the cage in the tulip backwards so the next time, used a Pitman Arm puller that worked slick....no pounding...just a wrench to tighten the center bolt. Thanks again. p.s. I see the comment below on the steering rack bushings. That job is a bear but with the help of a long bolt, which I used to make a "press" like device, finally got it done.

    Great job. I just replaced my switch as well after watching your video on my 2001 LX470. There was another switch on the back of the case. I cleaned it and tested it out with an ohm reader and that switch was fine. It's a different switch though (Toyota 84222-60081). Toyota has another identical switch (84210-52050) that would work as well for (84222-12010). The light didn't come on initial after I replaced it, but after driving a few miles, it came on. I didn't know if the dashlight was out, which I would not have replaced. Too complicated to do that.

    This is educational! I need to work on my inner tie rods (possibly outer too). Asides from moving the outer tie rods with your hands, did you use the 9 and 3 o'clock (horizontal) movement of the tire method? That's where mine moves and is the perfect candidate for an inner tie rod needing to be replaced. Also, which brand of tie rods did you buy?? Did you use the inner tie rod removal tool?

    Thank you for documenting this! Ive been looking for a suppliment to the mud write-ups forever and stumbled on this. Late this next summer i plan on lifting my 100 and i know my cv's need this for preventative maintenance. How did it turn out? Any lessons learned?

    • @flj232
      @flj232 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Perrotta it wasn’t as hard as I thought. Just dirty now I know why shops prefer to just swap out the axle. I had a hard time pulling the cv with rotor in Way. So once I popped the lower ball joint I had a straight shot out. It was also pretty easy to pop back in. I pushed and turned at same time. I went on a light trail the next day, it was about 150 miles and no leaks. Just need to fix my other steering issues.

    Hey bro I have a question, I have a ‘98 lx470, the pcv valve is kinda wobbly and I can tell it’s leaked because there’s oil buildup, do you pry to pull it out?

    • @flj232
      @flj232 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It just pulls out, but your new one might be wobbly still since you should replace the pcv grommet. But I wouldn’t try it unless you remove the valve cover because the grommet breaks into pieces.
