Getting my ducks in a row for 2025
So to start the year off I decided to do just a sort fun video.
We’ve needed a doorstop in the house for a while now and as most of us that do woodworking I’d rather make than buy (there’s always an exception to that) so I came up with this, I’ve seen some similar to the one I made but this one I drew freehand then used the first one I done as a template for the others.
I had some odd bits of oak that I had been given so when I was rummaging around my stash of wood these seemed perfect, I managed to get 2 ducks from a block and as I had 2 blocks I got 4 ducks in total. They’ve then been finished with my wood wax (you can buy this if you want 😉).
Thanks again to all those that have joined me so far on this journey, hopefully more will follow along this year.

Watch how I make serving/chopping boards
มุมมอง 4602 หลายเดือนก่อน
So bear with me on this one. This is the longest video I’ve put up so far, but if you stick with it you’ll see the process I go through when I make my serving/chopping boards. I enjoyed making these ones as I done some different styles I’ve wanted to try for a while now like the small end grain board or the cherry board with walnut put in it, hopefully you’ve found these as interesting as I did...
Bandsaw reindeer family
มุมมอง 9422 หลายเดือนก่อน
So with the aim of getting more vids up I decided to do a nice simple one, this time a nice reindeer family. This is a nice straightforward one that I decided to try something different out, these reindeer seem to be mostly made from 4x2 I wanted to see if I could make them smaller with the aim of making them from smaller bits of wood and pleased to say I managed to do it. All I done when I pri...
Custom letter openers
มุมมอง 1123 หลายเดือนก่อน
I got asked if I could make a letter opener as a anniversary gift the customer had an idea of what they wanted but as per usual with me I had to make a few more and some in different styles, the one the customer picks will have a bit more added to it but that’ll be at a later date. These were all made from hardwoods and ended up all different sizes too so there will something for everyone, if a...
Scaffold board table with custom legs
มุมมอง 1543 หลายเดือนก่อน
So I’m back this time with a custom table. So I had a request a while back from my sister for a dining table, I said sure I can do that lol so the fun began. She wanted it to be a certain size to fit in her dining room and had ordered a custom set of metal legs for it so I had to get on with it. It ended up being just shy of the size she wanted after the joining and sanding but it worked out pe...
I’m still here building
มุมมอง 274 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ok so I’m still here doing stuff it’s been a while since I posted anything but in an upcoming video I’ll try and explain why so please stick with me. These were a custom planter for a local pub to me #goldenlion #watford they wanted 4 of them and to be 4’ tall by 4’ wide so had to build these outside of my workshop as they are just to big. They’re not filling them completely as that would take ...
Wenge hardwood coasters
มุมมอง 827 หลายเดือนก่อน
A nice easy video this time just some simple Wenge coasters. These turned out well after a bit of a nightmare with the finish, I went with a danish oil first as I like the way it brings out the grain of the wood but for some reason it didn’t look good with these. Soooo I had to sand it all back off and start again the finish I did in the end was a polycrylic I’ve had mixed results using this in...
5 tier corner shelf
มุมมอง 528 หลายเดือนก่อน
So a nice little custom job the request was for a shelf to stand in the corner of the staircase but couldn’t come away from the wall to far and to be as tall as I could safely make it, got to say again I’m happy with how it turned out and thankfully so was the customer. I made the is one from some reclaimed wood that I had from an old bookcase/ shelf unit it ended up being 54 inches tall and 9 ...
Customer order wooden dog stopper
มุมมอง 1098 หลายเดือนก่อน
Nice easy video this time I had a custom request for a dog stopper…. Yep I had no idea what it was either but after a bit of searching I learned that essentially it’s like a child gate but for small dogs. The customer asked for it to be a certain colour and size other than that I had the freedom on what it actually looked like, thankfully the customer was over the moon with it as was I. It turn...

That is beautiful and I could not tell how massive this was until you were putting it together.
Thank you it did turn out really nice and it lets a lovely bit of light through the slatted part, glad to say the customer was extremely pleased with it. I did make 2 of them in the end but the customer only wanted the one, so if you’re interested there is another one for sale 😉☺️. Thanks for the lovely comment
Merry Christmas to you, look forward to watching your new projects being made in the new year
Merry Christmas thanks there’s some interesting ones to come, if you press the bell you’ll get notifications too. Thanks for subscribing
Hi great video, however, are you not adding a step you don't need..., i.e., just paste the original paper template on the block of wood rather than cutting them out first?
Hi glad you enjoyed the video, if I was only making one then yeah it would be easier to just stick it on the wood being cut, however I’ve been making multiples of these so it’s easier to make reusable templates
Great video, very informative. Such a long process, but some lovely looking boards. It was such a long process, you had to have a haircut and shave halfway through.😆 Do you have the information for the templates please? Is it Chopsdesign?
Hi glad you enjoyed it and found it informative and yeah it is a long process it’s more how I do things I’m sure there’s some woodworkers out there that have a simpler way of doing but just wanted to show how I do it, if it took any longer it may have all grown back lol. Yeah sorry forgot to add that in yes it’s chopsdesigns you can find him on instagram, thanks again 👍🏻
The bolt jig, what type of bolt?
Hi bud it’s just a bolt I got from a hardware shop I’ll see if I can add a pic of one for you
I had a look at the bolt and it’s an m10 x 120 that I used so something like that would work
Great video and really nice project! One of my favs. I have been making those for years also and I make mine on my scrollsaw a smaller version about 3/4" x 2" x 3 1/4". There are also some other patterns out there but they're more complicated, I like this simple one the best. I have a little herd also LOL and making more for gifts. I stain some and decorate some too. They look great in all woods. I have a hardboard template I use too. I use regular 3/4" thick stock boards for mine. I've made videos on them also. The nice thing about a scrollsaw is you can turn super sharp and get really detailed, It's my go-to tool. But my wife recently got me a used bandsaw. I'm not familiar with them but I may try this too. It would be cool to have a larger version. Again nice job and super video! You make great and fun videos and have a great channel. Hope your doing well and have a great holiday season.🙂
Cheers Marty definitely has turned into a fave of mine to do as they are simple (apart from the sanding lol) I’ve got a couple of different templates that I’m working with at the mo so depending on how they turn out it may make it to TH-cam. I’ve still got my scroll saw but been finding I’m using the bandsaw a lot more so far it’s a very versatile tool, all I’d say is watch your fingers I’ve almost had them a couple of times lol. Thanks for the very kind comments and I’m glad your enjoying the channel keep well and hope you enjoy the holidays too 👍🏻
They look great. do you have enough space to screw down the bottle opener, is the 28mm hole just right, or should you go smaller?
Thank you they really have gone down very well with everyone. I find there’s enough space it is tight though. You can go smaller but then you have to clean out some of the inside as it shows in the centre of the opener so there’s that bit more work, if you were concerned about the screws I’ve been experimenting with using just a resin or an epoxy to stick them in that works well. Glad you’ve enjoyed the video 👍🏻
Great video and wonderful project! I think it's fun to make small nice items from cutoffs (I don't call them scrap lol). There's so much we can create with all the little pieces we accumulate. Those are really nice whether it is for showpiece or actually using them to open letters. So cool to see in all the different woods. I have made them in the past too and need to do some more. Also with a scrollsaw could do some pretty detail customized ones. Again great video and nice work! I hope you're doing well. I need to get out in my shop when I get home and work on Christmas ornaments. Have a great day! Marty from Minnesota, USA. Currently truckin through the Mojave desert in California 🙂
Thanks for the comment Marty glad your still enjoying the videos and that your doing well. Cutoffs is a good word for them as there not really scrap 👍🏻 I’ve got a lot more to use but I’ve got plans for those hope to make a video for that too. That’s quite a journey your on is it for work? Would be good to see some of your projects. Thanks again Marty 👍🏻
@@Shedcreations80 Yes sir, I am a truck driver so I ramble around the country often. In Arizona now but hope to be home to Minnesota in a few days and get some shop time. Again great video and I enjoy your channel.🙂
I thought you maybe something like that I used to drive lorry’s not to the same extent as you are though, safe travels bud 👍🏻
Hi, thanks for the video. I like the idea of sanding on the pillar drill but can’t get my head around how your jig attachment is holding it in place. Could you explain how to make the jig and how it attaches please.
Hi yeah it’s a good idea maybe not the safest lol but definitely save a good amount of time. once I’ve drilled the hole for where the bottle top would go I then put a bolt through the metal opener bit with a washer and nut tighten it up then screw that metal opener bit to the wooden part, then put the bolt in the drill press and that’s it away you go. Hopefully that’s clear for you bud if not I’ll try do a short or something for one to show how I do it. Thanks for the comment and glad your enjoying the vids 👍🏻
Ah, I get it now I missed the fact you were using the actual metal opener at the end of the bolt. (Should’ve gone to specsavers eh?) I guess I could move the opener around a bit to not use the same holes when it comes to putting it back together. Thanks, all the best with your channel I’m enjoying it.
lol it’s ok I could’ve made it a bit clearer maybe 🤔 I find that using the same holes is ok but yeah moving them round would work or another thing I’ve done is either use some glue just on the tip of the screw so as you put it in it works round the thread or some epoxy would work good luck with how ever you do them fella. Glad your enjoying the channel 👍🏻
The tool you used to screw the screws in can you review that please thinking of getting one for my dad
Thanks it’s a 12v erbauer impact driver can pick them up fairly cheaply I think there a good buy and I’ve had no issues with it
I’m in love 😍 with my table and yes… whilst i may be a lil bias (he’s my bruv) but saying that I’m very hard customer to please so he knew the risks 🤣😊😍 Thanks Bruv
I’m really happy that you like it so much I look forward to seeing it once you’ve got your chairs and everything you’ll got to decorate it lol. Your very welcome sis ☺️❤️ x
G’day Mate, these look awesome! what thickness is the Oak & what depth is the inner bore?
Thanks bud yeah they seem to sell well. The oak ends up around one inch thick and the depth is about 3/4 inch deep I do vary this a bit as depends on the thickness of the material
Nice project sir! It's always fun to do custom orders.
This was definitely a fun one for me because even though the customer had a design that they wanted they let me have some freedom with how I interpreted it, I was really happy with the customers reaction to it really made my day. Have a greats day Marty 👍🏻
Another great video and project! I am enjoying your channel and I did subscribe. I also like Danish oil and use it often especially for Christmas ornaments and smaller things. Those are beautiful coasters! I've never had wood like that. Gorgeous nice work. Have a great day! Marty from Minnesota🙂
Thank you Marty, I really like using danish oil especially on sapele which so far has got to be one of my favourite woods however saying that this wenge has some amazing pattern to it so will definitely be looking for more of it to work with. Hope you have a great day too Marty and thanks again for the comments 👍🏻
Hello sir! I just found your channel and I'm enjoying it. I am just starting to make some bottle openers like this also. I plan to make round ones and some with handles. Also I am going to have a friend laser scripture on them, and I am going to put small super magnets in them so they can be put on a fridge also. I may make mine a little thinner so they can fit in a pocket nicely. So do you have a scrollsaw? That's another way to cut the outside circle, much easier and better than a hole saw I think. I've been scrolling for over 30 years and I use my scrollsaw everything. You can cut any shape very accurately, wastes less wood, and it's a fun safe tool. I like the way you use your drill press to sand them. Great idea! Looks like you have a nice shop. Anywho, again super video and great project and I'll be watching more. Have a great day! Marty from Minnesota🙂
Hi Marty thank you so much. Yeah I do have a scroll saw but for the size of timber I’ve used so far I don’t get much waste from doing it the way I do and the sanding technique is something i found someone else doing and I thought genius lol, I’ve contemplated making them thinner also some with a hole all the way through but not done those yet. Again i really appreciate your comments and I am glad your enjoying the content, I’ve not put anything else up yet as life has been hectic so not had the time but I’ve got some things in the pipeline that will be up soon. I hope you carry on enjoying the videos and thanks for the sub 👍🏻
Nice project! Are you eating up hole saws often?
Thanks bud. I did when I first started doing them but I find you just go slow then there ok
Tea pot bird houses 💪💪
That’s a cool idea Brad unfortunately I work primarily out of wood but I’ll have a look into how I could incorporate something like that. Thanks for the idea 👍🏻

I like them both ways, but I think the round over is my fav. Thank you for video.
