I have come to the conclusion that the Symphony no. 4 of Mahler is THE "musicians' symphony."

He's so good. We are going to miss him in LA. His Mahler 4 with the LA Phil was also spectacular. I wish more recordings were released as I also heard him conduct earth shattering performances of the 5th and 6th. Glad we have a LA recording of the 8th, a special concert and a recording I cherish.

Is it possible that the spatial distancing of the players provides a rare opportunity for the splendid detailing in the articulation of each instrument. This performance is really special and I've been enthralled by this symphony for over 50 years now.

No doubt in my mind that Camilla Tilling is the best soprano for Mahler 4.

Heb een tijdje gewacht op dn terugkeer van dit geweldige jubileum concert. BJO is en blijft mijn favoriete jazz big band. Ode aan alle betrokken muzikanten!

A delightful rendition of this masterwork. Now that Dudamel has hit 40, he's showing some true nuance and deftness, rather than the largely hollow bombast of his younger days. This is certainly the best Mahler performance I've heard from him. A great orchestra with an unparalleled Mahler pedigree doesn't hurt either.

Clarinet flat. (Clarinet players are living proof that God has a sense of humor.) Rallentando at the beginning over done, like every other conductor does it. I hate most conductors. Such an unnecessary evil.

Good to see "The Dude" maturing. Nice stick work - floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. I'd be really happy, for both him and myself, if he gets the NYPO.

Excellent performance, so nice to see Dudamel taking time. In the words of Mahler: Zeit lassen, zögernd.

This would have been a treat to listen to at the Concertgebouw! Very sharp enunciations with treacly and dramatic sweeps. Are these the effects of modern digital recording and an audience-free auditorium?

Bijna nachtvorst in Twente In Twente daalde het kwik afgelopen nacht naar 0 graden.
