Author Interview with JM Burgoyne
JM Burgoyne chose to go to the University of East Anglia (aka UEA) over Oxford because she wanted to study creative writing at a place that was world-renowned for it. She did her BA in American Literature with Creative Writing (choosing this to avoid Gawain and the Green Knight and other very old books) from 2002-2006, then did a Masters in Studies in Fiction (reading and writing essays about experimental literature) from 2006-2007, also at UEA.
Since graduating, she's done various types of work - mostly in the writing or journalism fields. She usually has about 5 part-time jobs and prefers it that way. She likes almost all books but loves books that make you think, that make you feel, or change something in you.
In 2009 she was shortlisted for the Escalator Award for New Writers, and in May 2022 Writer was published by indie press Story Machine.

Yes, it's always a sweet experience at 10:49 I love novels that reads poetically too. It's a beautiful that is worth incorporating into a story.
Absolutely. I'm a fan of books with such styles too. Thanks for stopping by Cayley. It's been a while I heard from you. Nice to see you here again. 😊
@@P.EnglishLiterature yes, Peter. I have been occupied with work. And we (Myself and my husband) recently moved to our new house in Texas. It's been fun here.
Thank you, Don. This was quite educative to listen to
Thank you Jackson
Yes, fiction creates a controllable environment, compared to nonfiction which is thoroughly based on facts
Sounds like a nice read. We all need to have a discerning spirit
I admired Michael's take on criticism and how he reacts when readers interprets his works differently than intended.
I'm happy to see this. And yes, the Guru Maraji is well known in most Indian and Africa communities
Thanks for the comment. It is motivating.
I love your interview man. Great to see fellow black man doing great literature wise. Proud of you man
@@JacksonEzekiel I really appreciate the comment. I will continue to elevate the minds.
I love West's idea about life.
Yes, they call them, planners and plotters. While others just downloaded the whole thing on pages randomly from their head. Haha
Absolutely. We all divers with writing. Who are you? Are you a planner or you write randomly?
Great synopsis there. "It gives us hope that we are not alone and that angels are watching over us to let us know that we are being guided by a power greater than ourselves."
Absolutely, Dylan. Very true
Great conversation Andrew 🎉
Thanks, Dylan.
"It was obvious they didn't know about fashion, or what was important to a teenager" that knocks me off my heels.
😃😃Thanks for watching
That's a powerful excerpt. Looks like she's being through a lot. I'm particularly interested in her experience in the prison as a woman
Indeed it was.
Thanks, Genesis. It's such a touching story.
I'm just discovering this interview after 4 months. I enjoyed everything Annemiek said. Interesting to watch.
Thanks for finally checking it put, Jasmin. I appreciate you
🎉❤❤
Thanks for the review. And yes, there hasn't been a lot of memoir about luxury life. There are travelogue, which is always fun. That's different. But like you said, most that stood out in the market place are those of harrowing themes? Have you read, I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy?
Yes, I have read that book. It was something else. Really great story telling the fact that she can remember so many details from so long ago to fully immerse you is amazing. She truly does remember lines well as an actor and it shows in her storytelling. I was so intrigued as to what her life was like to come up with such a title. Her perspective on relationships whether with friends, family, boys, and her career is so insightful. It was a great listen and opened my eyes up more to eating disorders and trauma other people go through. I couldn’t imagine going through all she went through but she wrote her book very well to speak her truth. It’s really upsetting how the media painted her as the bad guy so much especially pitting her against Ariana but I’m glad I could finally hear her side. Would like to recommend another similar one to you though, but I think I'd rest a bit from my ranting. Haha.
@@LaceyLeeBordenExactly. But wasn't she truly happy her mom died? It tells from her title (I'm Glad My Mom Died) It's a lot to deal with dysfunctionalities in families
I haven't read that yet. Looks like a bestseller. I haven't read it yet but I have heard a lot of people talk about it here on BookTube
@@ScottCoatsworth😢
Great quote there Owen. "No one can stop you from your greatness except yourself!"
Absolutely, no one. Aside you!
Beautiful convo
Thank you
Yes, there are those emotions associated with writing one's life story
Absolutely. There are. And it's always a saddening type
Its traumatizing and annoying when these trad guys rejects books and say it's not a good fit. "Like, you tell me my life story isn't a good fit for publication?" I haven't heard of a place where memoirs are criticized too. I mean, this is not fiction or some sort of historical fiction that you might say doesn't have it facts correct. Anyway, congratulations to Anthony for finally getting his works published elsewhere.
It's very alarming and disturbing really. I mean for a memoir, it shouldn't be so.
I agree with you big time
That's an amazing advises Dan's got for aspiring author like me. I thoroughly enjoyed his take too on criticism. This looks great!
Thanks for watching, Leye.
Thanks for the interview. I found Cambria's idea and advise to up and coming author like myself to be quite inspiring.
Thanks for watching, Leye
Interesting to know he does html coding too. Whoa.

"It's not an apple. It's a book. Books will live forever." Forever they live. I love Roger's idea with it. And his take on criticism is amazing ❤
Thanks, Agynim. Thanks for stopping by
Don't we all deserve wealth and fame for our books? Haha. Lovely bio
Thanks for watching

Sorry to know about the death of his agent. So sad. But I'm glad he eventually got his book published🎉
Thank you, Gary.
We need to preach the message of love in a world devoid of hope
Absolutely. We need to!
Contagious positive energy Danielle's got.
Thank you, so much. I was actually a bit nervous. I fumbled with my words a few times, but I'm glad that awkwardness didn't shine through too much.
Absolutely. I loved it wholeheartedly
"Everybody drinks. My father was an alcoholic. My neighbor, they all drinks." That's the level environment influence one's upbringing
Absolutely. Environment plays a great role in unfluencing a child.

"...If you read the book and you don't cry. Please read it again." That was pulling.
Very pulling. Thanks for watching, Alfred
I'm so sorry to know about Gina's losses. Losing a dad on a Christmas day is so saddening. I mean, a time when family and friends comes together to celebrate turned to a mourning gathering. So sorry to hear about that. And the loss of Spencer too is too heavy. I hope she already found healing.😢
Thanks for watching, Angie. It's an emotional memoir for me
