Graffiti Video Series: Cannonball Concretions
The last location of note for graffiti in Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a place with unique geological features. One special spot in the North Unit has a pull-of with cannonball concretions right by the road side. Sadly, not one of these is free of defacement. If you see something, please say something; call the park rangers with license plate, location, and description of the individual(s). You can help protect your national park!

First stop for where graffiti can commonly be spotted is out behind the South Unit Visitor Center. The Maltese Cross Cabin, Theodore Roosevelt's first ranch home, is a historic structure. Most of the carvings found on this cabin date back to when it traveled around the nation and people wanted to mark this president's North Dakota home. Unfortunately some people are still leaving their mark; re...

  • @loudspeakertestsmorebyaida3804

    First step: buy LED light because they’re more direct than mercury, halide, or sodium lights.

    • @remsencey
      @remsencey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is false since most of the housings of LED lights also shine out and up causing glare and light pollution. If people are going to buy LEDs bulbs for outdoor lighting, make sure they're well shielded and also make sure the bulbs are between a 2000K and 2500K color temperature range. If not, paint the LED bulbs you own with tangerine orange stained glass krylon spraypaint to give them an orange tint.

    • @loudspeakertestsmorebyaida3804
      @loudspeakertestsmorebyaida3804 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@remsencey I would buy the night sky rated luminary. I just would go with at least 4,000K though, but it won’t cause light pollution if the fixture is shielded. I buy shielded fixtures. I hate fixtures that shine upwards. Led street lights can be shielded and shine downwards.

    • @loudspeakertestsmorebyaida3804
      @loudspeakertestsmorebyaida3804 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@remsencey And sometimes I like to use those RGB style LED fixtures and many of them are shielded as well so they won’t have light trespassing and won’t cause light pollution. The bluer color although has more light pollution risks, but it won’t cause light pollution if the fixture is shielded and shines downwards. I always point my flood lights downwards so they don’t go in other people’s yards or cause light pollution. A lot of people just like to use non shielded fixtures and point the light upwards and that is the main cause the issue over the color temperature. I know I am just not a fan of soft white. I like neutral white at 4,000K or color changing LED, but I occasionally do like 2200K only for indoor Edison lighting. So I just buy nighttime sky compliment rated LED fixtures. They are more costly, but they do they job. My whole neighborhood uses 4,000K street lighting that’s all shielded and I can see the nighttime sky more than I used to compared to the high pressure sodium street lighting.

      Make awareness in your local area by Talk to your parents > friends > local authority Or Gather some folks who know electrical stuff and add those shields to the lights by yourself or by friends.

      @@sustainablelife3603yep, thats what I thought too. But after doing my research i found out that LEDs actually scatter that light way worse than any sodium light, and do more harm to our night skies.

    Make law to put mirror above lights so that it can only shine down. Increased efficiency decreased light pollution such a shame the number of people are unaware of what theyre wasting and missing out on :,( Im going to write a letter to trump to set lamp housing efficiency standards, and everyone else should too.

      That's amazing man

    • @GrowingAnswers
      @GrowingAnswers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea is also to reduce power consumption. Meaning if lights only point down, they only need half the wattage to provide the same amount of light for the ground. Adding a mirror doesn't accomplish energy savings and LED are bi-directional anyway so it's not needed. That's just a rough figure though. Sadly I see some new super bright white led fixtures in parking lots aimed at 45 degrees angles so even more light is projecting up in the sky. New regulations need put in place for area lighting specifically for businesses or business land since they are the largest contributors to the problem. I do see municipalities taking part in new street lighting though. Once thing I find pretty terrible is that even on a moonless night living in a darker portion of the suburbs I can still see rather well outside during astronomical twilight. Just from ambient light in the sky. And if clouds roll in...It might as well be like indefinite sunset. Makes me wonder what is what like before artificial lighting. Even in very remote areas there is still a level of light pollution from some small town that may be 40 miles away.

  • @puncheex2
    @puncheex2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Putting a shade on the light cuts pollution but doesn't improve the cost problem - it just converts the light to heat, warming up bird's bellies. You need to use reflectors, and then cut the wattage of the bulbs in half.

    • @kornbread5359
      @kornbread5359 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      why, of course that follows out of the lamp shade construction!! And lamps dont need to be that bright after all, eyes work better in soft lighting then inn very harsh lights. And at night you dont want harsh lights it messes up your sleeping pattern anyway
